Thanks to a last minute decision to add a needle-thin spire through the crown of the building, Chrysler was championed the “Worldʼs Tallest Building” for eleven months in the 1930 “Race of The Sky”.
Unfortunately this beautiful Art Deco building’s observation deck has been closed since 1945. The marble lobby is open to visitors though, and it’s free!
New York’s tallest for only one year, the 1930 skyscraper’s spire of radiant stainless steel arches won it icon status nonetheless. - Green Guide Editor
Despite housing the Chrysler headquarters for 20 years, the company never owned the building. Rather, Walter Chrysler paid for the construction privately to insure its inheritance by his family.
It's an architectural masterpiece but also secretly conceals the most notorious freak in NYC. Somewhere in the towering recesses, the Green Goblin can be heard pounding out standards on a grand piano.

It really is sad there is no observation deck in the building. I feel sad for the tourists when they bounce in the lobby and realize that's all they'll get to see.

There is no observation deck or any formal tour. It's best for tourists to run in and take a quick pick of the ceiling and run out so as not to annoy those of us who work here.
Don't forget to look up when entering the building...it's best.
Art Deco's temple

Easy to walk and pass by. The neon at night changes its color for different occasions.
