Pick films in screens with a digital projector. We find the showings in other screens are often out of focus.

Now that people are wise to the "tickets on any level" ploy, bring your own snacks (cheaper) & go to the bar level as there's rarely a queue.

the new st davids 2 is about a minute from the cinema and has some great options for pre- or post-film eating, unless hotdogs and nachos are your thing :-)

Bar prices are surprisingly reasonable, but then I suppose there's only so much you can mark up half a pint of watered down syrup aka Diet Coke.
Orange Weds are usually manic, try bargain Tuesdays which are only a bit more expensive! Or better, get an unlimited card!
