  • Austin Chronicle

This tiny spot offers excellent crab cakes, quail, and hanger steak alongside more typical diner fare. The Counter Benedict with pastrami and grilled pimento cheese sandwiches are standouts. Read more

Can't go wrong with any of the following: (in no particular order) burger, breakfast tacos, blueberry pancake (w/ honey butter) and the biscuits & gravy. Sit at the counter & watch the magic happen.

Try the Counter Burger. The sweet, buttery bun forms a toasty halo around the beef. Draped with Cheddar, the Rubenesque hand-formed patty works in juicy accord with Bibb lettuce, red onion and tomato. Read more

Great Austin restaurant with true Austin values. Killer breakfast tacos an arguably the best burger in town! Seating can be a tight. Check out on your iPhone while waiting in line!

This tiny restaurant serves some of the best locally-sourced food we've had in a town wild for locally-sourced food. And, yes, their famous burgers are amazing. [Eater 38 Member]

The Counter Benedict is the perfect hangover cure. Thick slices of Niman Ranch pastrami and two gooey-yolked eggs perched on a flaky, open-faced homemade biscuit.

This retro diner serves classics with a Texas twist. It's so tiny that you'll inevitably wait for a table, but it's worth it for dishes like the Counter Benedict.

Every single time I eat here it is the best steak I've ever had. I also like the sweet potato fries and even the fruit sides are always fresh and excellent.

Counter café has Great food but the hostess they have a very bad attitude and very rude. Please go at your own risk to be treated like animal probably. She is the trump apprentice.

The eggs benedict is pretty solid. Best part about it is that they use pastrami for the meat. Hollaindaise sauce is a little lemony depending on the day you go

    Aaron Motsinger · April 15, 2010

If you appreciate good biscuits, you must try them at Counter! Some of the best I've ever had. Comes with warm butter & a side of strawberry jam.

veggie burger was delicious. my friend got the quail and was quite disappointed as it was basically a bag of spinach with a tiny bit of meat.

How can 1 tiny place create both the best blueberry pancakes AND the best breakfast tacos?! I always get 1 of each.

    Josh Lloyd · May 6, 2012
  • Desiree M.

Ask for melted butter to put on your pancake. The butter that comes with it is hard and it can be frustrating to spread.
