Great coffee, and great looking pastries, but the brunch offerings were pretty poor IMHO
The Rebel Within, a soft boiled egg inside a savory muffin/biscuit is spectacular. The kimchi financier is pretty good too.
Pastry chef William Werner distinguishes himself from the pack with croissants glazed with passion fruit and sesame seeds and semolina cake studded with candied corn nuts.
The sipping caramel is the best thing I've put in my mouth. If you like bi-rite salted caramel, you will orgasm over this!
The rebel within is great but it's quite heavy. You won't eat anything else for hours and hours.
This is what happens when the museum IS the gift shop.
The Rebel Within. $7 muffin with a soft boiled egg in the middle and bits of sausage and onion.
Okay, fine. The pretentious atmosphere is totally justified. Their coffee and pastries are phenomenal.
The pastries are delicious and the sipping caramel is out of this world, but be warned- there is no wifi. This is especially problematic because the reception here (for AT&T at least) is really poor.
Try the afternoon tea. Monday to Wednesday 1pm - 5pm
The Rebel Within - cheesy sausage muffin with a runny egg IN IT (per 7x7)
Chocolate sourdough bread is chock full of chocolate chips and just $6 / loaf. Great jasmine oolong tea, too.
They do a fantastic (though expensive, like everything else here) afternoon tea, from 1p-5p, but it requires reservations 24 hours in advance.
Get there around 8am on a weekend to avoid the line
Earl Grey Blueberry Chouquette. That is all.
get 1) the rebel within 2) the devil 3) kimchi loaf 4) any of their fancy patisserie cakes/ pastries in the refrigerated cases. yum.
Savory tart with really delicious ricotta cheese, sea salt and vegetables on crispy lavash; ocean trout on preserved lemon, pancetta bits and pea puree. Amazing Summer refreshing!
The Rebel Within runs out quickly on weekends - get there early to try it!
Afternoon tea served 1-5pm Monday through Wednesday. Reservations strongly advised. $22 for 1 or $40 for 2.
Get the Rebel Within; a muffin with an egg inside. It's that good.
Gorgeous presentation of pastries. Everything almost looks too good to eat. Beautiful space, too. Perfect fit for laid-back but pretentious foodies in the Mission. I say it with love.
While the sitting is less than ideal, I'm loving the no-laptop vibe, and the soundtrack: lots of Spoon.
After you've tried the Rebel Within, move on to the gougere -- lighter and equally tasty.
pair the savory breakfast pastries with sweet sipping caramel ... sensational!
Rebel Within, any of the cakes, lattes!
If you are diabetic bring your own sugar substitute. They "ONLY" have sugar in the raw and simple syrup.
The "rebel within" is a surprising treat: an egg in a muffin? Delicious and neat!
Amazing quiche - and substantial serving size!
Loved my cinnamon personal cake!!
Love their morning bun and cookies!
Love the communal table...beautiful baked goods, breakfast, lunch & late afternoon goodies plus good leaf teas, coffee, beer & wines.
Hazelnut pound cake
Thai Curry Scone is impressive.
Actually, this place is quite friendly and approachable! Oh and delicious. Coffee, tea, wine, baked treats - sweet and savory and sandwiches.
The rebel within is the best! But you will have to get up early cuz those delicious muffins will be gone before noon!
The Rebel Within was interesting but definitely should be served warm.
No better way to start the day.
Great deviled eggs and their simple sandwiches are built with great ingredients on excellent crusty bread.
Don't let the photos fool you! This place is laid back and awesome.
The Rebel Within
Try the afternoon tea here and sample hipster versions of English classics. Only offered M-F afternoons and requires online reservations.
Raspberry almond croissant is delish! Raspberry filling was lemon-y and delicious
get the rebel within. and get here early enough that they don't run out =(
Have The Rebel Within, a delicious savory muffin with soft-boiled egg inside. Get there early, cause they run out quickly.
The Rebel Within and Coupe Raspberry were excellent! Saving the salted Carmel Brownie for later!
I am an oatmeal cookie connoisseur and have eaten them all over the Bay Area. The oatmeal apricot cookies here are a twist on a nostalgic yet classic cookie:. chewy, sweet, salty, spicy, nutty. Yum.
