Built between 1208 and 1220, this complex represents some of the oldest surviving architecture in the city, and was the centre of English power in Ireland for over seven centuries until it was taken of by the Irish Free State in 1922.
You can only see the inside of the castle if you go on a guided tour. The wait is usually 30 minutes or so... if you're not interested in the tour, I still suggest going to see the outside.
The Gardens in the Grounds of Dublin Castle is a real sanctuary on a sunny day. Submitted by @typocity
This is perhaps one of the most unique castles, you'll ever see. In this government complex, you'd have to pay to see the magnificent state rooms, but roaming around the castle will be enough.
It's the heart of historic Dublin. In fact the city gets its name from the Black Pool -"Dubh Linn" which was on the site of the site of the present Castle garden.Built in the13th century.Don't miss it!
Was until 1922 the fortified seat of British rule in Ireland. Upon establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, it was ceremonially handed over to the newly formed Gov't led by Michael Collins.
First Wednesday of the month is free! get there early (first tour 10.15) and enjoy :)
to be noted: lady liberty on the wall, with her back to the people and missing a blindfold.
Closed until the end of June 2013 due to Ireland hosting the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Small, free exhibition open, worth a look.
Make sure to get the student rate! Cheapest tour in Ireland by far! Worth it too!
Great tours, especially the old city walls..
Nice tribute to Veronica Guerin in the Gardens (under the walkway)
Much better than the castles we have in New York.
Bring an air gun for the seagulls.
I recommend Dublin Castle
Closed until the end of June 2013 due to Ireland hosting the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. :(
Free Access to Dublin Castle on First Wednesday of Every Month
Doing the tour really worth it. Get there early and pick your time.
We skipped the tour due to the long wait, but the grounds are still worth seeing and are impressive.
If the tour is sold out go around back of castle and check out Garda museum and rh
I want to be Major of here :)
First Wednesdays of the month are free admission
Go inside. Easily worth the 4.50
We can visit the castle for free on first wednesday of every month
Not big deal... This castle doesn't show how was the real castle hundreds of years ago. Edinburgh's castle is much more impressive.
Wow. It was a great day.
Well, life is always changing.
Best public toilet facilities. Odd tip? Yes. But definitely good to know.
Lovely gardens to the rear if state apartment's to sit down abd relax
There are a number of public car parks nearby.
NOT a must-see in Dublin- the rooms lacked furniture.
Sometimes if there is official business going on you won't be able to see certain parts so ask first. You'll also probably have to wait for available tour times some plan ahead.
MUST. O antigo centro do poder inglés en Irlanda, recomendada a visita guiada. TIP: Madrugar para coller o ticket.
Aqui vc nao paga entrada.. tem um jardim muito lindo na entrada.. o castelo e lindo tbm
Le parc derriere l'entrée du chateau est sympa. Que des visites de groupe a 5€
