Want to avoid paying 30p for the toilet? Just ask them if they have change of a £5/£10 note. They always just let you in for free as the change machines just take coins. Don't do this often though!

Try to avoid standing on the track as the train approaches.
If you are on your way to Glasgow Queen Street, get food here and visit a cash machine, the station in Gasgow SUCKS and has nothing of value in the vicinity.
Don't forget to buy your ticket before you board! Otherwise you will not get through the automatic gates!
Not only have Waverley Steps re-opened, with escalators, there's also now lift access from mezzanine to Princes Street level.

Waverley steps close from 10 February 2011 for building works
If there are no cabs, or a large queue, walk up the ramp to waverley bridge - there is a taxi rank there and some cab companies can't go into the station itself.
It is advisable not to step onto the track when a train is coming.

No shops open before 5:30 except for two coffee kiosks, so if you're up for an early start, make sure you bag your morning meal elswhere.

Fabulous railway station. I like the way that nothing is accurately sign posted. If you take the stairs to princes street though you'll get one hell of a great view

Waverley is the second largest station (by area) after Waterloo, just in case you care about these things :-)
In the middle of major works to make it less like a dungeon. Should be epic when it's done.

New stairs and escalator open from Princes Street. Covered too!
Jenners Department store (opposite station) has free city guides with tourist maps of the city center (top floor near the café), better than paying £2.50 for the ones in the Tourist Information.
It's getting harder and harder to find your way into the station with the building works going on.
