Avoid Virgin Trains East Coast if you can. OH WAIT THEY HAVE A MONOPOLY. Definitely don't pay for first class, it's rubbish since they clearly cut as many corners as they could.

The main sitation of the city. Free wi-fi. Castle is 10 minutes away by walking. Waiting room is warmer than outside. Finding a socket to charge phones is not easy. Charge them at the train.

Surprisingly big. Get here early to get oriented & get to your track. 1st class lounge was nice but departure screen only gave us 15 minutes to catch our train when it popped up. Still, been to worse.

A bit of a mess to go around the station, too many instructions on how to get to a platform. Need one big screen next to the time table to show the platform.

No shops open before 5:30 except for two coffee kiosks, so if you're up for an early start, make sure you bag your morning meal elswhere.
