The Elgin Street Diner became an Ottawa institution upon first opening its doors more than 11 years ago. Whether for breakfast, casual lunch and dinner, or late-night dining, the Diner has become THE place in Ottawa. The awards and accolades speak for themselves.
Can't get over their poutine.
The omelettes are ginormous!
Poutine so loud
Any omelette with wieners is fantastic in my book!
I always order the hangover breakfast its very filling and delicious. It comes with eggs, beans, poutine, sausage and toast.
Food comes in huge portions.
Try the Lox sandwich.
The milkshakes are the best!
An affordable late night place in the downtown area. Poutine is alright but not exceptional. The fries and gravy not hot enough to melt the cheese curds. Milkshake is quite good. No beers sold here
Authentique, très bon club sandwich, parfait pour un lunch avec des enfants : crayons à colorier et menu pour enfants. Un brin cher par contre: 65$ pour une famille de 4
No Quebec poutine but I can't count the number of times I've had their 4 cheese poutine late at night. Often good for 2 people!
Been coming here 20+ years. Perfect for breakfast or anytime, really.
One word...poutine. I want to go back and try the rest of the menu.
I'm going to echo what most the people on Foursquare are saying about this place -- get the poutine, you won't be disappointed.
You can jack up your poutine by requesting 1/2 fries & 1/2 onion rings! Try with the ESD poutine topped w/ bacon!
Milk shakes are huge and fantastic!
3 words: Roast Beef Dip
Very good Poutine! Try the Philly Steak Poutine. A meal on its own.
Absolutely amazing. The poutine is among the best in Ottawa
No longer licenced.
Large portions of excellent food. What else do you need?
Greasy. Maybe too greasy..but that's what the morning comfort food is on.Elgin
Come try the best veggie burgers and poutine in the city!
BLAMM! I say. BLAMM! Is ok. BLAMM!
They don't have beer here anymore FYI.
Quick service and great breakfast
I'm from Quebec - have tried just about every poutine from Montreal to out in the countryside and Elgin Street Diner gives them all some stiff competition. One of the best poutines I've ever had!!
Breakfast items are amazing.
Best late night place in Ottawa
Our new favorite. Can't beat these fries
Big portions and good service. Air circulation is wonky though, it's either quite warm or chilly.
Useful tip- it says you can upgrade your fries that come with a burger or sandwich for $3.49 but don't just pick the plain poutine. You can also upgrade it to ESD poutine (recommended!)
Officially not worth a visit. This is a 2 out of 10 on the pouting quality meter.
Try any of the poutines on mashed potatoes
For the best diner experience in Ottawa, this is the place to go; beats any other diner in the City.
No refills on fountain drinks! Also try to sit away from the kitchen and there are TONS of flies in the summer.
Try something from "You Gotta Eat Here!": Chili, Onion Ring Poutine, Blue Plate Breakfast, or Meat Loaf
Listen to the vintage Bose Business Music System
Get the ESD poutine, it's amazing.
Best place to randomly meet up with friends late at night
Head there after the bars for a late night smoked meat poutine - the grease'll soak up some of the alcohol you just consumed! ;)
Place to go if you want a plate packed with food.
Modestly priced. Great food!!
Expensive, but the best diner on Elgin Street. Good food, great service!
if you are 2 and both want to sit in the booth side by side ...there is a diagonal booth in the left rear corner of the restaurant.
Definitely recommend the ESD poutine and/or 4 cheese poutine.. or any of their poutines... DELICIOUS!
I always get regular fries with breakfast instead of homefries. Makes a world of a difference!
