Great place for indie films. Very modern, and well done. Bar with sports on tv while you wait, modern facilities and huge lazy boys to sit in. Also you can pre select your seats

He took the time to layer my mixed popcorn - kettle, tradition, kettle, traditional. And the seats are so comfortable and adjustable!

One of the best independent theaters in SF. Unique selection of films, super comfy reserved seating and alcohol you can take in. I always watch the Oscar-nominated shorts here!

Art houses like this, sadly, are a dying breed, but thankfully the Landmark chain has kept the dream alive for a couple of decades now. The popcorn is passable and there are free popcorn seasonings. Read more

These are cramped spaces for films, but there is a lot of foreign and "high risk" fare that won't show anywhere else. Snack bar was first in SF to provide nutritional yeast for popcorn. Yay vegans!

Get there early, get your ticket & reserve your recliner, buy a bottle of wine from the in-house bar and bring it into the theater with you. Amazingly comfortable.

Very Tricky to find the Theater since the Embarcadero Center can be a maze if you are not living in SF. Great International Theater with spectacular scenery.

Seats in smaller auditoriums (4 and 5) are enormous and recline like crazy. This you're better off actually sitting further back or you'll be looking at the bottom 10% of the screen the whole movie.

The shows that are starred are screened in the lounge with reclining lazy boy chairs. Beautiful theater, beautiful selection of movies.

Small, cozy and home of independent and international cinema. Love the giant reclining seats and ability to bring booze inside.

When purchasing a ticket on the Movie Vend-O-Tron be ready to catch it, otherwise it’ll be mechanically vomited onto the floor and you have to bend over to pick it up. And you with your bad back! Oy!

This is easily the best theater on earth. Wine, electric reclining seats, Jr. size popcorn. I'm not worthy!

The Screening Lounge screens are surprisingly big for how small the rooms are. Sitting any closer than the 3rd row results in awkward viewing angles.

Some SF theaters have more interesting selection, some are better venues, but factor in both, and you'll find the Embarcadero Cinema to be a consistent (& sadly uncontested) winner
