Fang is an upscale Chinese restaurant and lounge serving inventive, healthy, fine Chinese cuisine in a large and modern space in SOMA.
It felt strange when the owner took out a menu from our hands, and told to forget about it, he is a chef. I guess it seemed charming to other people, but we knew exactly what we wanted. Food was great
Egg rolls are surprisingly good, dumpings were avg but sauce was tasty. Bf short ribs were recommene, it was okk. Good flavor but its pretty much like salt and pepper fried beef stew cubes.
Second visit, the chef recognized us. Said not to worry about ordering, he would take care of us. He sent out delicious buns, veggie dumplings, pumpkin soup and the most tender, flavorful beef dish <3
Chef Peter Fang asked, "Do you know what you'll be having tonight?" I replied back with, "we'll have whatever you recommend!" His eye lit up and he took our menus away. The best 10-course dinner ever!
Best Chinese food in SF!! Let Chef Fang order for you - it's insanely good. If you're a menu orderer though, I recommend the peking buns, onion cake, short ribs, pea shoot salad, & white fish
If you want a treat that isn't on the menu, ask your waiter for their apple & chicken plate. The apples are fried and salted, while the chicken has a light honey mustard to it. It's so delicious!
Yes. Agree. Let the owner decide what u should eat. Amazing, creative dishes. Portobello mushrooms w tarragon & barley so unexpected. The short ribs, divine. I even liked the apples in the prawn dish!
Reviews just okay, but it was close to our hotel and we were tired. Great choice as it was delish, fresh and creative! Service was questionable at first but then they really pulled throug.HGo for it.
My favorite Chinese spot in SF! The must try's are the Nanking Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef Tower and the House Fried Rice. If you're in a large group, have the chef choose your meal.
White River Fish Soup is exceptional - a great comfort soup to start a meal. The short ribs has amazing melt in your mouth texture. It's nice to have Peter order for you. Just sit there & enjoy!
If it's your first time here and Peter asks if he should take care of your culinary quest, say yes. You won't be disappointed. And it's not too pricey either.
Delicious. Couldn't say what my favorite dishes are as I've never seen a menu. Don't be afraid and let the staff order for you. It's definitely some of the best Chinese food I've had in SF.
A little bit of a racket at dinner. "Order for you" turns into upgrading things you ask for to more expensive similar options without really giving you a choice. On the other hand, it's good food.
Brown rice with fish and shrimp good flavor but they mix in fermented black beans ewww. Everything was small portions, flavor was there but overpriced for what it is.
For large parties, request to be seated at the Tibetan room. Dignitaries usually accommodate this area. Enjoy the private, wood-lined, opulent feel. For the claustiphobic, don't use the elevator!
Impressed with the presentation, service and food. The picture I have here speaks for itself. I had a rice with beef dish and duck in a bun.
Service was surprisingly slow on what seemed to be only a moderately busy night. The person who took my drink order couldn't take my food order, so had to wait for another server to come by?!
Believe this is a sister restaurant to House of Banking. We had the waiter just bring us his recommendations and literally Everything was delicious! Couldn't get enough.
Disappointing service by Fang himself - no smile, no recommendations. Had been so excited to try but unfortunately won't be back. Hot and Sour soup was the highlight from the otherwise average food.
get the omakase. I do it every time and I have yet to be disappointed by what they bring out. they also take suggestions so give them your preferences!
An awesome place to grab a bite, especially for lunch! Try the pork buns - let us say ‘delicious’. In the area for RSA 2012? Check out Barracuda Networks at booth #1147
Make sure to order appetizers if you're in a group because fang staff has not yet figured out how to bring everyone's entrees out near the same time
Let them order for our group of five for lunch, got about 6-7 dishes for about 20 per person. Lovely authentic & fusion food, great value.
Get the salted pork belly with pumpkin over rice. Red pepper chili flakes gives it a slight kick. Deliciousness for under $10 during lunch time.
Want dinner? Order the lunch specials for Mongolian beef tower or the sesame chicken. Same portions as dinner but at about $8 price instead of $13.
So I love this place, it's a little pricey. Bring a bunch of people so you can get more dishes and just let the chef order for you.
"An emphasis on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients make classic dishes (steamed soup dumplings, fried egg rolls, sesame chicken) shine."
We are need taken care of by Peter Fang personally. He took away our menus and is suprising us with each course. Incredible flavors and variety.
If the chef comes out and asks if you've been there before, say no! He'll make several delicious courses that you'd likely never order on your own.
Appetizers can come out after some of the entrees, so there's no way around their inability to bring everyone's food out at the same time.
The shanghai soup dumplings are only available with pork, but there are many other tasty vegetarian options.
Happy hour specials are pretty amazing! Cheap appetizers and drinks. The service was just okay for us, not great.
Order family style chef Cathy #choppedchampion will bring you the most amazing dishes ( dietary constraints friendly too)
Tell the waiter what you like and let them take it from there. Buuuuut make sure you get the slow braised beef
Go with chefs choice, you won't be disappointed. Onion cake and zucchini buns are awesome!!
The chef will insist on ordering for you, with a bit of an attitude. But fair enough, the food is good
Onion pancakes. Shrimp fried rice. Awesome. Also try the Hainan punch if you want something light.
Oyster mushrooms are brilliant. So are the dumplings. Steamed scallops not as good. Crispy beef exceptional.
Must try - onion cake! They suggest some pretty nice dishes as house specials. Liked this place :-)
Go and request the family style... Say what you're allergic to and they'll just keep on bringing you food...till you can't no more!
Awesome so far - Chef came out - said don't worry about ordering - I will take care of you!!
Our omakase dinner for 5 (chef's choice) was delicious. Varied dishes~Spent more than we wanted but worth it.
The waiter could very well be the chef himself! And he will talk you into a prix fix menu
The chef (if he's your server) will cook whatever you want even if it's not on menu. 👍
If your with a group of people, just tell them to order for you. You won't be disappointed
Mongolian Beef is a must. Brown rice with oyster mushrooms and edamame are just GREAT!
3 things to try: Soup dumplings, shrimp packets, steamed buns... You won't be disappointed!
Mongolian Beef wall was great! As was the famous Nanking Chicken! Salt and Pepper Mushrooms are a must try!
Food tasty and interesting options. Ask for hot tea and it will cost you $3 per person, though.
