This is a very large area to explore and could easily be a day. To avoid ticket lines purchase in the back entrance otherwise at the coliseum it may take hours.

I think its the best if you start your visit of ancient roma from the forum, it is of course incredible, be sure to have an audioguide and also go to palatino, then visit the colosseum.

Walking the Roman forum is truly mind-blowing, taking you back to antiquity. Afterwards take the exit to Via dei Fori Imperiali behind the Basilica Emilia to see the fora of Augustus and successors.

Get here early to beat lines and have the grounds to yourself. Then take your ticket to the Colosseum to skip the line there.

Wear comfortable walking shoes - lots of uneven ground and stone roads. Water fountains available inside.

Horrible service from ticket checkers. Very reluctant to answer questions. There is no food available inside. No re-entry available if you want to go out to eat and come back.
