It’s all about food at Gateway Market, a different kind of local, good food market in Des Moines' historic Sherman Hill neighborhood.
The tuna sandwich, seared and cooked rare is excellent! Everything at this restaurant is good though!
Asked for steak tacos made as Burrito, ate half made great dinner...
Took a guest the last Sunday afternoon. He ordered the tenderloin sandwich. He barely could manage cutting the meat with a knife it was so overcooked. All other meals were satisfactory at best.
Breakfast includes vegan options such as tofu scramble and steel cut oats.
South Union bread, great meat counter and coffee selections. Usually good produce, though some specials are not often so great. A good stop for many items, probably won't be your only grocery store.
From the storied manufacturers of Fox's u-bet chocolate syrup- the only way to make a egg cream (look it up) this stuff is addictive!
A word to the wise: Huy Fong foods is the original Sriracha, Sambal Oelek, and Chili Garlic Sauce company (one brilliant ex-pat Vietnamese). Note the green tops and the rooster - those are Huy Fong's!
The entire Marie Sharp collection. I run through two bottles of the "Fiery Hot" Habanero hot sauce a year - buying over the Internet (and I live in LA). Spectacular!
Attention ex-pat Brit, Aussie, and Kiwi shoppers! The debate rages on!
The wine selection is the best I've found in Iowa. Not limited to French wines by any means!
Fish Tacos, Fries, burger one of the best. Sashimi and rolls good as is the market lasagne. Olive bar, cheese bar and red velvet cupcakes!
One of the few places in Des Moines that carries my favorite Oasis Hummus made by Oasis Falafel out of Iowa City, IA. Their pita chips are pretty awesome too.
The black bean burger is amazing!
The perfect burger, it's perfect.
$21+/lb dark chocolate covered espresso beans?! Highway robbery! Get 'em at HyVee.
Check out the Top 10 bottles of wine under $10 ... they're always good!
They will not let me in here. They say that I must leave, but I am so hungry. I need to eat, I say. No, they reply, voices barely escaping their raspy throats. You may not enter here. So I do not.
That Tomato Basil soup though... Yum
The cookies are the bomb
Starting Friday, October 4th (and every friday after) they'll feature a fish special prepared by the GW chefs.
Love the store and their catering dept. does a fantastic job!
Great food and great customer service! We wanted some ready to eat watermelon, they didn't had any but gladly cut a whole one for us and packed it!
Got stuff to make our own zombie burgers
I don't eat here nearly as often as I should. I am always surprised by their creative & flavorful menu options!
Good breakfast at the cafe. Love the cheese section of the store.
Try the chicken pot pie and the ramen. Delicious!!!
Their Eggs Benedict (and brunch food in general) is excellent.
Kids eat free Tuesdays!
The creamy yet spicy chicken tortilla soup with a slice of artisan bread... yum!
Peace Tree Brewery Root Beer.
Ma! Meatloaf! In other words try the meatloaf.
The fried chicken breakfast on weekends is absolutely amazing
The food to go single meals are huge portions, good variety, and only $7.99! That's less than most other foods here- a great deal!
The floral department has a fantastic selection of air plants!
Breakfast is served until 2 p.m. on weekends!
Lobster roll and coleslaw
The only place I have ever seen a vegan Bánh mì and it is amazing. Vegan chili is also the best I've ever had. Non-meat options in general are winners.
If you're getting food to go, ask if you can get it in a paper bag. The plastic ones don't hold up very well (we've had more than a couple instances where food ended up all over the car).
Very tasty fries...normally dont like fries, but here they are fresh, seasoned and not salty
Cannot beat their antipasti/olive bar. I also like their house hummus selection. And don't get me started on available cheeses and South Union breads...
Fresh ingredients make an awesome BLT. A little pricey but well worth it!
This place has awesome cake. Try the triple chocolate cake.
Get the lobster mac' and cheese. Thank me later.
The potato pepper jack soup is a must have.
I enjoy the many types of trail mix. Yum!
Try the Shaktea Kombucha, made fresh in Fairfield, Iowa. Love the Strawberry Twist & Mango Tango. :)
The Korean steak sandwich and lobster Mac and cheese are both fabulous.
People can't seem to drive when they enter the parking lot here
Best veggie burger ever.
Best veggie burger I've ever had!
