The picturesque views from the top level are beyond notable. Said to be the longest span in the US. Walking is possible, biking is smarter. Do beware of the occasional destitute or suicide. Beautiful!

The running / cycling path is on the south side of the bridge, upper level. Runners/walkers on R, cyclists on L, both ways (altho ppl don't always follow that rule). Always go single file.

It is a bridge with a great history. Once you get a handle of the best time to travel in and out of the city. You can travel anywhere in the World.

Bike lanes on both sides of the bridge, but not always both open. Schedule is unpredictable. South lane is better bet most of the time & has no stairs; enter ramp at end of 178th St.

Although your instincts may tell you otherwise, it may actually be quicker to take the Upper Level (with all the trucks), as no one else is doing that.

usually the best approach to the GW but sometimes it is better to take Linwood and Lewis to the Lower Level. Wonder if they will ever get back to building a Lower Level Helix to/from the PIP?

If there were a spot on earth that was close to the fiery abyss, this bridge's traffic is it. I'm pretty sure I saw Satan laughing on the upper level. Maybe it was Jeter.

George Washington built the bridge in 1756 to escape the onslaught of Henry VII and his band of merry men. He then raped and pillaged Prussian mercenaries in Princeton, turning the tide of the War.

Buy a $5,000 Orbea Orca, a pair of $200 Giro 2010 Bib Shorts, $200 Capo jersey, and $200 Shimano clips, and ride over the bridge like an inconsiderate jerk, slower than the seasoned riders, mind you.
