One of the most beautiful castle I've ever seen. The torture expedition isn't 10 € worth. But the whole castle itself is really nice.

Eh if you've been to other castles in Europe, this won't blow your socks off. If you haven't - nevermind it's amazing!

This is not the oldest building of Ghent ! What you see is a 19th Century "romantic" reconstruction of the original, of which only ruins were left at that time. Worth a visit nonetheless !

Built in the 12th century by count Philip of Alsace, served as the seat of the Counts of Flanders, a courthouse, a prison and a cotton plant. Nice collection of torture instruments inside.

Banners floating in the breeze atop the castle walls, a sinister torture room, gleaming armory... You will have no trouble imagining BBC's prestigious drama series 'The White Queen' come alive.

Banners floating atop the castle walls in the breeze, a sinister torture room and an impressive armory. Small wonder BBC's 15th century drama series 'The White Queen' was shot here.

This tour isn't free, but an easy walk through the castle interior, spires, ramparts, & dungeon. There's a room dedicated to the history of torture as well.

Ghent’s oldest building is the Castle of the Counts. Nowhere else in the world will you find such a massive castle right in the heart of the city. Go back in time. #visitgent

The name Gravensteen means "castle of the count". The panorama of Gent can be seen best on the top of the castle.

‘I’ll show them who’s boss’: that’s what Philip of Alsace had in mind. So he had the imposing castle rebuilt (1180).
