whatever time you're thinking of starting off in the morning, start an hour earlier than that. you'll need it as the lot fills up fast. stay ~30 mins after sunrise, and explore once the area is empty

Consider one of the sunrise bike tours! They drive you to the top and then you ride a bike all the way down: no pedaling!

Fantastic view, but you have to be there at least 1-2 hours before sunrise to get parking spot on the summit. Also really really cold. Drive to observatory (closed to public) to get more great photos.

The volcano summit is the best spot to watch the sun rise. Check the cloud report, a few clouds make for a picturesque sun rise but too many and visibility is severely impacted. Also, get there early

What's better: a sunset over the Hawaii ocean or over the Hawaii clouds? Here, decide for yourself. Start driving up an hour before sunset, land above the clouds, and watch the sun round the earth.

The best experience is a very early rise to get to the summit for sunrise- very cool but takes commitment. Option 2 is to go for sunset. Note- it is busier & the drive down is dark. Both are amazing
