People tend to check in during these times:
Visit the summit.
Watch the sunrise but brings a warm jacket!
Don't miss the breathtaking sunset either! Get your snacks at the Kula General Store just before you turn onto the mountain road.
It's about a 2.5 hour trip from Wailea. Make sure you have a good playlist to keep you awake and alert driving up the crater!
Amazing views that you can't get anywhere else, that's all there is to it. Though the drive up is a bit nerve wracking.
Do the bike down! Great scenery!
Watch the sunrise! The stars are amazing 10,000 ft up
The hike down was amazing I loved the view
Fantastic view, but you have to be there at least 1-2 hours before sunrise to get parking spot on the summit. Also really really cold. Drive to observatory (closed to public) to get more great photos.
Take some aspirin when you're done coming down. The elevation change (+/-10,000") can give you a bad headache.
A must do. Incredible.
Don't miss the breath-taking sunrise form Haleakala National Park. Definitely worth getting up early for! Flights to Hawaii leave daily and are available from £639 departing from London Gatwick.
Don't just see the sunrise and leave. Explore the crater. Enjoy the awesomeness of nature.
The volcano summit is the best spot to watch the sun rise. Check the cloud report, a few clouds make for a picturesque sun rise but too many and visibility is severely impacted. Also, get there early
What's better: a sunset over the Hawaii ocean or over the Hawaii clouds? Here, decide for yourself. Start driving up an hour before sunset, land above the clouds, and watch the sun round the earth.
Drive up there early to catch the sunrise. Get there at least an hour before the estimated sunrise time as the park lot fills fast
Get on The top before sunset, then leave the crowd behind and go to some place on The trail to enjoy a private view with a beer!
Be sure to dress for cool weather, bring a pair of gloves and a scarf!
Haleakalā is why pants that zip into shorts exist.
Its cold, so bring some warm clothing as back up.
Dress warm if you are going to see the sunrise and don't wear sandals
Watching the sunrise is beautiful and worth the drive up the winding road. Get there early to ensure you get a parking spot. Make sure you wear a jacket and maybe a hat, it's freezing up there!
Visit the overlook points after sunrise at the top of the crater.
Hangovers and these roads do not mix.
Sunset & star gazing here Is gorgeous!! Even cloudy days. Go all the way to the top to the summit. The drive isn't for the feint of heart but worth it! The altitude can mess with you, drink lots water
Where long pants. It is cold even if the sun is shining high in the sky.
Once you get there head to the backside of the visitors center and get protection from the harsh freezing wind! You can climb up on the wall of the visitors center for a better view too
Worth the drive up! Even if there are clouds you drive through some when you go above the cloud line. Definitely bring a hoodie and/or blankets!
Not an early bird? No problem. Haleakalā is known for sunrises but if you haven’t seen a sunset from this vantage point, you are missing out!
Absolutely gorgeous! Sunrise and bike trip down with Ronnie and Travis with Bike It Maui was a wonderful experience!
it's very very cold if you come here before sunrise
If you're going for sunrise, be there by 5:30.. and dress very warm!! its freezing up there
Closed. US government shutdown boo poo poo
Bring a light hoodie or jacket. It can get a little chilly, although the roads are a little crazy, definitely go up all the way to the top. It's worth it.
Wear hiking shoes and bring mosquito repellent.
Some trails are closed
Dress for both cool and warm weather. We've gone twice and both times The hike into the crater is cold but the hike out is warm.
Sunset is less crowded than Sunrise!
It is necessary to put on very warmly: very strong wind and it is cold! Instead of sunrise you can arrive for sunset - in the spring it around 6.30 pm
Fill gas before going up!
Don't forget your warm jacket, mittens, sunglasses and some snacks for a spectacular sunset!
Amazing. Get there early.
Check the exact time of sunrise and it'll take about 2hr from Kaanapali to Summit area(Upper side of Vistor Center). The top of Haleakala is Sooooo cold!!! Make sure to bring ur warm jacket~
The tips on here about wear every bit of clothing you have and bring the hotel blankets are no joke. It was 28 degrees this morning with 25+ mph winds. Well worth it but friggin cold. Get there early.
A must do while in Maui. Highly recommend biking down. Looks like Mars!
Amazing experience, but bring winter clothes so u can enjoy it! in November it was around 30 degrees w massive winds (making it feel much colder). Hats, gloves, jackets, blankets - bring them all!
The best experience is a very early rise to get to the summit for sunrise- very cool but takes commitment. Option 2 is to go for sunset. Note- it is busier & the drive down is dark. Both are amazing
