Hill Country Chicken is inspired by its founder’s childhood memories and his passion for the Texas-style home cooking of his mother and grandmothers, Betty and Momma Els - hearty, crave-able comfort food served lovingly, casually and unpretentiously by people with big smiles on their faces.
Can't compete with the other well established names.. Shake shack also too tempting
When it opened: decent. Now: absolutely incredible. The Southwestern Salad with fried chicken = 🙌. Cheesy mashed potatoes have some magic in them.
Real fried chicken.
Biscuits (try with honey), fried chicken
Try the Chickwich - (via @Foodspotting)
The sandwich was great. Get the pie too.
Fun practical stop. Very normal food.
Southern fried chicken done right! I prefer their original with skin. It's nice and crispy yet juicy. Biscuits are must. Their pies are just as good as their chicken if not better.
The chicken is awesome! Wasn't expecting it to be so flavorful and moist. I went for the Classic fried I'm a skin fan. Definitely will return. Staff can be a bit more inviting to first timers however
Absolutely the best fried chicken (Mama Els) and grilled chicken sandwiches in NYC. The homemade pie cups are awesome too. And don't miss the Boylan fountain soda. Free refills!
The sides are pretty good, and of course the chicken is great.
Wow! The fried chicken breast was amazing. Probably the best I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot! Fresh, vintage, down home Cookin' at its best! I bought breast and wing Coop Meal with the Creme Soda
A taste of the south in Midtown. Definitely get a biscuit.
Boylan's soda on tap! Get the chicken tenders - they're huge and friend with a yummy cracker batter.

Chicken and waffles + grilled chicken Cobb salad
I'm not fan of chicken wings but the place is pretty good
Pecan pie with ice cream
Chicken tenders (get a side of honey) and cheese fried mashed potatoes is what you should get. No questions.
Texas tenders and a coffee milkshake
Chicken and waffles 😍
Good Mac & Cheese too!
Get the classic battered chicken. It's amazing!
The Mac and cheese makes me want to die because in life can ever be better!
Decent fried chicken
Don't miss out on the Mac n cheese. The two tender coop is always a good deal.
The pie shakes...ERMAGAWD!!
Cheesy mashed potatoes...ugh, heavenly. Would recommend to others 10/10.
Make sure you save your receipt. It's usually good for 10% off your next meal.
Additional seating downstairs.
The Coop in dark meat. Ask for half mashed potato and half mac and cheese to get the best of both worlds.
The food here is too good to be true. Try their chicken tenders, Mac and cheese, banana pie, and fry mashed potatoes. It has real fries in it! How awesome is that!?! The entire staff is sweet
Pie shake! Pie crust inside a shake. So delicious and yet disgusting at the same time. I had the double cherry one and it was very good. The fried chickens were also not bad.
Not so great...
Classic > Mama Els
Get a cup for the soda fountain and combine the black cherry with cream soda. It's the best.
Best fried chicken in the city me thinks. The bums are also nice and hassle you from the warmth of your chair. No need to battle the cold for panhandlers.
Really great salads, contrary to what you might think
The mac n' cheese was a surprise power player. Wow.
Try the chickwitch.
Go here. Eat everything. Have no regrets.
Big fan of the mash potato side. Decent chicken that will leave you satisfied, but slightly below Blue Ribbon for reference.
There's a downstairs area with games and other distractions great for kids.
The pie I think is overrated. The atmosphere on the lower levels is comfortable.
Really good fried chicken. Amazing biscuit. Great pies...especially key lime.
Cheesy fried potatoes are a must-order.
Good fried chicken sandwiches and healthy portions. Beware the long lines around lunch time.
Your cafeteria tray can double as a kevlar vest. So can the bucket of chicken.
I would rather have Popeye's. I thought the fried chicken was overrated.
