Truly German atmosphere! Try the Kartoffelpfannkuchen, they're very good, and pair them with a house beer. :) During the summertime I highly recommend the Biergarten - nice views to the marina.
Plan to spend about two hours, slowly working through apps and beer then lunch/dinner. The pretzels were good, the beer cheese made them great. The brats were wonderful. The dunkel is excellent!
Good food, great atmosphere, and absolutely perfect environment for groups. Go for the beer or go for the food. It is really a little piece of Germany in Pittsburgh.
If you're thinking about ordering an appetizer, go for the Kartoffelpfannkuchen (potato pancakes), they're delicious. Also, choose a table by the river, in their Biergarten.
If you don't mind waiting for a table for several hours then don't bother getting there before 8pm. Also they say no reservations on Fridays an Saturdays yet many people had them?
Great beer and great food! However, our waitress, Jess, acted as though she'd rather be given a hot oil enema than take care of us. Enjoy the establishment, but avoid Jess!
There is a policy in place that you can only have 3 & 1/2 liters of alcohol here. Shots count as a 1/2 liter, so don't come here expecting to drink en masse. It is a good policy though.
When the weather is nice, be sure to sit out in the beer garden along the river. You'll have a great view and it's a lot quieter than the beer hall.
great for groups only they have a no call/adv reservation policy so you have to get your group on a list then wait until tbl avail so requires some strategy for fun!
This place is awesome!!!! I recommend anyone going to or through Pittsburgh to stop in and try it out. I will definitely be going back.
I love the Bierkäse (beer cheese) and pretzel combination. The beer is OK, but then again, I much prefer Belgian-style trappist beers.
I'm all about the pretzels here! Even without the cheese dip, the pretzels are great. Not much of you don't eat pork, like me.
Fun, warm, "Oktoberfest" atmosphere! Authentic German cuisine matched with amazing beers brewed in-house. Go here. Go now.
My favorite meal is the Wurstlplatte. It's three different types of wursts. Don't recommend you eat the entire thing if you plan on drinking heavily, though.
If you want a giant plate of meat, and great German beer, this is your place. Also the best kraut I think I've ever had.
My accomplice here was the beer drinker, but I had the potato soup which was awesome and chocolate cake, which was also awesome.
This tip is for the bartenders...try pouring the shots INTO the glasses for shot skiis so it doesn't get all over everyone's clothes.
Get the schnitzel cordon blue for the entree and pretzels with beer cheese as the appetizer all the beer is top notch
Gets noisy and crazy at night, hard to navigate when you're in a small group. Get the pretzels for obvious reasons.
Hofbräu has good German food with a nice view of the river but is much more chain like that the Penn Brewery.
Pretzel with bier cheese. Inside is loud and fun, outside is more mellow next to the river.
Gets too crazy on weekend nights. Bros puking on the floor and in the bathrooms. Great place when it's empty though!
Pretty close to the Hofbrauhaus in Munich! If your in Pittsburgh and you like German food and beer, you have to go!!!
Go for the fried dill pickle spears and the sauerkraut balls. Delicious! The Dunkel is also a good beer choice.
The pretzels & beer cheese appetizer is the best!! Highly recommend the club sandwich as an entree also.
Go to Hofbräuhaus and save room for dessert; the Apple Strudel's imported from Bavaria, and it's excellent.
Don't stare at the boobies too long. Make at least 1 second of eye contact between takes. Get a liter of Beer!
Great beer and food.. Great service.. Fun atmosphere. Love it!
Isn't as big as the Munich one, but has great view and great beer. Heif Weisz is the best!
Thursday night is college night, $6 liters of their tap beers. Also some discounts on food
This may literally be the worst place ever. If you have ever been to actual Octoberfest in Munich this place will make your eyes bleed.
order the "Sampler" to start off eatin. The HefeWeizen Beer is the best. Jagerschitnzel is awesome.
Excellent German beers on tap, great pretzels, and good traditional German fare.
Friday and Saturdays are the times to "experience" Hofbrauhaus! Also, Hefen Wiessen.....BEST BEER!
This place is awesome!!!!! Great music, friendly people, don't forget to try the apfelstrudel!!
Don't let a long line scare you off, it goes quick and even busy, service is fast
Give the band a fake "congratulations to so and so on your anniversary" so that the band plays them a song and embarrasses them!!! Wioooooo
Got the three sausage sampler. Awesome. Parking was really hard to find.
Love it here! Been here many times. Gluten free menu has a lot of options.
Food was very good and the atmosphere was awesome and the live entertainment made it all around fun!
server forgot to ring in one of my friends order.... I had to tell him as if he didn't know she didn't have food in front of her as the rest of us are eating.
Try the bier cheese spatzel, it's like the best mac n cheese you've ever had! Yummy!
The dark seasonal beer was delicious. Sauer Kraut Balls were awesome as well.
This place is awesome. It's absolutely impossible to not be happy and have fun here.
College night is on Thursday's. 1 off liters not bad. You don't even have to be in college to get the discount either.
I love this place, and I ordered their bier cheese and grilled chicken breast. Love this place!!
The Bavarian Brats band on Saturday night, they start at 9:30. It's definitely the best time to come
Best Pretzels and German beer. A really cool experience and fun environment.
Love the food, service, and atmosphere. Can't go wrong with this great German restaurant
