Ok this is just something you have to do once in your life. It took about 45 minutes to hike up to this fuckin thing. Bring water.
While you cannot get close enough to touch the sign, you can still get pretty close – hike the Hollyridge Trail to see the sign from above, and if the weather is clear the views are amazing.
Great scenic view
The sign is kind of tacky but the views are fantastic.

The best way to see the Hollywood Sign is to hike to it.
Few people know that after an ill-advised experiment involving a jetpack, I had to replace the "y" in "Hollywood." You will likely be unable to verify this information. Like I said, few people know.
Taking a picture with Hollywood sign is a must do in LA. The best place to take a picture with hollywood sign is Canyon Lake Dr. That's the closest location you can get to the sign by car.
Haunted by the ghost of Peg Entwistle, a young starlet who leaped to her death from the top of the H on September 16, 1932.
To reach there and get a good view for photo let your GPS go to " sunset ranch hollywood"
This is quite a hike!
Seems that it's impossible to get on Mt Lee Dr by car. Tried several roads but every time was barred with a barrier. So be ready to hike at some point ;)
Good spot for the pic!!!
Looking for a view point? Drive to Hollywood Lake Park!
Watch out for body parts

While the sign’s grounds are barred from public access, you can still get great angles for photos. From Franklin go N on Beachwood; turn L at Ledgewood. Right at the 3-way intersection onto Deronda.
Don't hike after sunset. You will probably get lost on the trails. If you do get lost don't panic, just trying find a trail that goes down the canyon.
If you want to go behind the Hollywood sign make a hard left at the first fork in the road and then make a right at the next fork.
Be sure to visit the "W"! It's one of the best letters to see there!!!
You can get pretty close and have great views of the city from here.
Try a short cut :)
You didn't come early enough. Sunrise is where it's at.
Don't miss the batman cave on your way down. Last left before you get to the parking lot.
This is probably not the correct 'Hollywood Sign' check-in...but let's change that. Enjoy.
Film crews often up here (this photo Gary Hayes took during a California Tourism ad). Ignore "road closed" signs (public access) & have a sticky beak as LA goes about making magic under the sign!
There is a trail that leads to the back of sign. See online
