Established in 1996 on historic Sixth Street the Iron Cactus Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar has been serving contemporary Mexican cuisine for over 18 years. We draw our inspiration for our cuisine from various regions in Mexico. The Iron Cactus can be found in 5 locations across Texas...
Food was really good, HOWEVER, drinks were SUB STANDARD. Martinis were not filled to the rim like martinis are supposed to. My group ordered 4 chocolate martinis and the they had a shots worth of liqu
Some of the best TexMex in Austin. Get a rooftop table at sunset and order Ahi Tuna Ceviche (comes with amazing chips), lobster tacos (full of lobster sweetness), and a 100% Agave Margarita (strong).
Whitefish tacos are perfect for hot temps. thanks to a papaya salsa garnish. The restaurant’s chicken fried steak deserves a mention for its size & tasty salty batter. —WC http://bit.ly/NlI3mX
Some very tasty food! We got the lobster tacos and pollo flameado. Both dishes came out perfect! Our waitress Audrey, was awesome! She made us feel welcomed, and had fast accurate service!
Stop in for lunch/dinner and some margs! House salsa is awesome! Get the queso to go with it! Chicken/Jalepeno poppers are a must! Wide tequilla selection and great menu options!
May be a wait for dinner if you go on a weekend, but the amazing margaritas will make the wait feel a whole lot shorter :) Check out what's going on during SXSW here at do512.com
For Sunday Brunch it's $15 the waitress lied to me & told me that the bottomless mimosa was included it's an additional $7 salty ass bacon too many other good restaurants in Austin to eat here again
Amazing delicious foods and drinks! Good size portions and must try the tournedos de tejas or the cornbread crusted pescado. That are by the best dishes that ive had in a while.
Table side guacamole is great. Cocktails are very tasty. Veggie fajitas with black beans and cilantro rice is a great vegan option. Other beans and rice are not vegetarian.
If you're into sipping tequila, this is a great place to go. We recommend trying a tequila flight, and if you're feeling adventurous, the pomegranate margarita is to die for.
This Mexican restaurant has a great balcony upstairs, perfect for catching some sun while relaxing and watching 6th Street activity. Guacamole made table side, don't skip it!
Baja Fish Tacos were good, but the fish pieces were too big. Make them smaller and put in a couple. Not one big one. House Margarita was excellent. Good chips y salsa.
do not try to get seated with one missing from your party .. do not try to bring in water - they think it's vodka .. this is a business dyk .. good meatloaf good queso nice patio
A) put alcohol in your drinks, b) triple sec is not a valid margarita mixer, c) the cerviche is amazing, d) micheladas shouldn't have BBQ sauce in them, e) super sweet deck.
Very disappointed with this place. Managers treated us bad, food it's not even good as it used to be. But everything else was awful. Not coming back ever, and would not recommend this place at all.
Bland, overpriced food, some of it was cold and other parts were rubbery and overcooked. The drinks promised to be strong, but did not deliver. Only real positive was the pleasant, attentive staff.
Perfect rooftop bar to people watch on 6th during SXSW. The queso is a great app to share and the margaritas will keep you cool on a hot day.
Best damn taco salad I've ever had. And it's worth it to get the extra kick in your drink, go for the tequila floater. Your liver won't hate you too much.
Happy hour till 7pm includes 1/2 off apps & $3 drink specials (real margaritas w/agave, house cocktails, beers & wine!) John is a fantastic server!
Bring your own to-go boxes. They charge a 7% rate for them. Not worth it. Also, they only give military discounts if you are in uniform. Sucky policies but great food!
Chicken stuffed Avacado for lunch is delicious and probably one of the best burritos I've had in a long time. Eat your Mexican delights on the roof...
Very good margaritas, nice atmosphere despite the noise, but then again, I was there during SXSW, maybe it's quieter the rest of the year.
Order the guacamole. A guy comes over with a variety of ingredients and makes the guacamole to your standards the entire time. Excellent and yummy.
Place has good food and a very central location, but with all the other authentic restaurants in Austin, I would consider other Mexican restaurants first
I knew a wrestler by this same name. Sadly, when his special move, “Hug of a Thousand Needles,” proved a little too effective, he was forced to become the markedly less fearsome “Satin Willow.”
This place is wonderful! Free chips and salsa. Have the salmon and fried avacado. Sit on the rooftop.
Delicious margs and tortilla soup. The salsa that comes with the table is spicy and delicious. Mix the queso and salsa.
Second tip: Sit by the window or upstairs looking over 6th! 6th street is so entertaining to watch!
The lobster tacos have a great blend of flavors! Three of them come in the entree so between chips & this it's enough food!
Amazing Mexican food. You've got to try the fresh Guacamole! Liked the lobster tacos, too!
The asparagus is delightful. Shrimp kabobs and ceviche are great too. Go with the sangria. Rooftop deck w/ Latin music
Ask for Alex. She will help you out with whatever drink suits your occasion. If you're in college... A lights out & a Dos will do.
For lunch, the buffet-style restaurant upstairs will get you food faster, but the restaurant-style downstairs is better. Try the fish tacos.
Sadly disappointed in the guac. Its not bad just not something to rage about IMO. Then again I'm from California and think InNOut Burger is overrated.
Can't go wrong with crab fritter nachos and shrimp enchiladas. Flan is awesome.
This is the only restaurant I've been to where the gluten free menu is already on the table when you sit down. Kudos!
Great service for such a large party, but disappointed with the chili con queso and yucatan fish tacos despite good reviews
If you're here for Mexican Martinis, save your money. They are not well balanced, too acidic. Try Trudy's, their original is far better.
With options like Lobster Tacos and Texas Peach Margaritas accompanied by a misted rooftop 6th Street view, what else do you need in life?
Must try tres leche cake for dessert- big enough to share! Ditto on the good hand smashed guacamole, a great start.
Quesadilla is overcooked and underfilled. Their signature Palermo drink is at least decent, though a margharita might be a better bet.
Get The Lobster Tacos. They are amazing! Also their sangria is pretty unique with a touch of cinnamon. ;)
Fantastic food and service. Try the fajitas. Next time going to try the lobster tacos. Cold salsa better than the warm.
The freshly made guacamole and mojito with extra mint is a complete combination
