Here's what you do: get an AirTran card before you go through the turnstile ($5 when I left this tip). Then _on the other side_ of of the turnstile get a regular metro card for use in the city.

You most likely will need to use the restroom after taking the A train all the way from Manhattan to here. Bathrooms are clean and locked but asking red jacket attendant will give you access.

Bring 5 USD in cash so you can cut the queue and buy the ticket from the MTA guy with a red jacket. Be ready to open your backpack too

Monthly AirTrain passes available for $40 if you need to take it everyday. And 10 rides for $25. So if you need to take it often, it's more cost efficient than paying $5 every time!

If you use the air train a lot, get yourself a $25 card, good for 10 rides, instead of $5 each time

If you're a tourist save yourself the hassle and get a cab/rental. I would only recommend the AirTrain/NYC subway to someone who is familiar with it

Aside from the extra cost on top of the MetroCard, it was a decent and convenient ride.

Be prepared to spend at least 30 minutes to get to your terminal. The inside track goes Clockwise, the outer track counterclockwise.

Easiest way to jfk is the A train to Howard Beach skytrain. Never worry about traffic through the tunnels.

People, u don't need to buy a airtrain metro card. Just buy a new metro card or refill your existing one to $10+, then u dont need to repay

I'm no cheapo but $5 is dumb. Every other airport has an airport shuttle system for free. Nickel dime, nickel dime.
