Cool spot. Dinning hall is old school looks like a theater and low lighting gives the place a nice ambiance. Pizza is coal fired and above average for NYC..but that's better than anything out of NYC

The food is ok, mostly the pizza since the pasta was not impressive. The important thing is that the stuff is rude without paying attention to customers...

Sorry, not too god pizza. Crust is ok, but very thick. Prosciutto was far from what expected, thick and salty, (probably not really prosciutto) and the pizza had garlic even though I didn't order it.

The saloon makes clear it used to be a church before a pizza place. Nice to see great meal value in the heart of Manhattan. Fair price and good pizza

The mozzarella sticks were amazing and the fact it's in an old Broadway theater is worth the trip on its own.

Try the Linguine And Clams With White Clam Sauce - A generous portion that is the perfect balance of pasta, clams and sauce. #filling #tasty #pastalikememamade (via @Foodspotting)

Authentic Italian menu in the heart of Manhattan. The locals recommended it so that's where I went! They also offer a whole grain pizza for dieters just out for a craving! Will return one day! :3

This place is awesome! Excellent pizza and lots of other choices to chose from. This will be a mandatory stop whenever I'm in NYC!

I know this is in the middle of tourist central but if you're in Hell's Kitchen and are craving good pizza this is the place to come to. Added bonus is that they have Palm on tap!

Others foods are also good but obviously they are known for their pizza. At meal time a line can be very long so especially at lunch time if you have fixed amount of time you can be out, beat crowd

Went to John's Pizzeria to taste the classic New York pizza and was not disappointed. I ordered a margherita pizza with pepporoni, a Brooklyn Lager and for desert had a cheescake. Everything was great

2nd time here. a good place to have dinner with friends. The pizza is good. Just take care that they don't serve slices, I had to eat it all on my own . You will eat it all anyway as it's delicious.

People seems to really like this place, I visited it just before they close and it was okay but nothing special. Might need to revisit it at a better time.

This is the best pizza place in NYC. It took me 4 trips to find a place and the pizza is brilliant as is the garlic bread and bruschetta. I came twice on my last visit a must for anyone visiting

This former church is a bustling place to have lunch and feel like you're having authentic NY pizza... If you're a tourist.

I take it as a fairly bad sign when the garlic balls are the most recommended item on the menu—and no, they're not even that good...

Tourist trap. Go if you must. I'd rather have gone to the sliced pizza places on 8th avenue... Also - there's a *flagship* Shake Shack at the corner of 8th and 44th.

One of my favorite pizza places in NYC. Love the Margherita and the Pizza Bianca. Make sure you check out the ceiling while you are there.

I ate at the bar and received exceptional service, equivalent to four-star pleasant, friendly-but-not-overly-so, deferential, excellently trained service. Closer to Michelin-star than "pizza joint".

A small pizza is equivalent to most places medium pizza!! Calamari is delicious!!! Everything comes out piping hot!! Wings were yummy too.

Crazy crowded during Xmas break. You might want to choose an alternate time to visit, outside if normal dinner hours.

BEST pizza in NYC! This place is amazing - everything from the food to the fact it's a renovated church makes this a must-visit place! We'll definitely be visiting again next time we're in Manhattan.

Service was lacking on our visit, seemed like it was more of a hangout spot for employees than a restaurant... But the pizza more than made up for it. Delicious. Sauce was rich and flavorful

Get the pizza - and you can't be seated until your entire party has arrived. Don't go during peak hours it's packed.

No as good as it rating. Pizza is not really good, my Hawaiian was wet and the edges were over cooked, more than crunchy they were hard to bite.

Get a pitcher! If there are two people you're spending at least $12 its only 6 more for pitcher and you get almost three times the beer.

Get the Garlic Rolls!! Get them NOW! Oh, and if you get seated in the front of the restaurant...be sure to check out the ceiling in the back!!

20 minutes since we ordered and still no appetizer or pizza. Not sure if this is normal for them, but not off to a good start. The details inside the building are beautiful though.

The waiter we had had no finesse. he asked my husband's order first then reached a across us w.o. excusing himself. Other than that the food is so good u put up w NYC rudeness right?

Awesome venue for pizza, used to be a chapel. There is a really cool diagram on the wall if what Manhattan used to look like.

Pizzas not as good as expected, but they're okay. Prosciutto chunks were extremely salty, should've taken some pineapple with them. Nice atmosphere though.

If you're looking for a slice, turn around. The only sale whole pies here. But they're worth it!

Asked an officer for a good pizza place. He recommended John's. Walked in n everyone ignored us. Finally got seated n our waiter was stoic/unfriendly. Hoping the food makes up for the list service.

The pizza is OKAY; I wouldn't call it amazing. For some reason, the place was packed to the gills on December 26. I don't know if they were giving stuff away.

The old church atmosphere is spectacular but the pizza is just as amazing. Nice thin crust with a brick-oven taste, come here for the quintessential New York pizza.

John's has the best traditional, thin-crust, New York-style pie. And this is their best location to experience - a huge, beautiful, sweeping former cathedral, complete with stained-glass windows.

Best pizza in New York! Freshly made (in front of you if you get a good seat), and not too much sauce. Great tasting, big slices! Go with classic pepperoni you won't regret it. Pastas are good too.

They do not service Pizza by the slice. The Pizza was good. Disappointed that they do not have garlic powder. The atmosphere was nice and it is a renovated church.

If you order apps do so before your pizza otherwise it will all come out at once even if you tell them otherwise. Then they bring you back the cold food later. Very chaotic and unprofessional.

One of our favorite places to come for a pizza dinner with friends! This huge space is open late. Try a Traditional with Prosciutto and Basil. Fried Calamari is good too!

The tour guide on citylights said this stepped all over lombardi? Man could he tell a joke or what! John's ordinary pizza. Try and match above domino's standard i guess? tip: goto lombardi's.

The pizzas are enormous. A small will yield 6 generously sized slices. If you're not in the mood for pizza, the eggplant parmesan is a tasty alternative.

Go to this branch of John's Pizza for great brick oven pies -- the meatball is a favorite of mine -- and the space: it's a former Baptist temple with a great mural. Read more

The "default" pizzas are very low on cheese - you might want to ask for extra as a topping, if you like a positive ration of cheese to sauce.
