That big tuna thing is real weird. The first round is scrape off the bones - not super filling. Then they deep fry the shit out of it and you munch on the marrow. Fun I guess and not that expensive

Consistently high quality, super fresh sushi and sashimi. Fish is equal to top sushi restaurant standards at a good value. I recommend the daily specials and tuna rib appetizer, if it's available.

How much do I love the omikase, let me count the ways.

SUPER EXPENSIVE and the food was average! Only sushi place in east village that didn't have mice violations, only reason I went here. Will not return, EVER. Smelled fishy too.

    Brigette K. · January 14
  • Raymond K.

Not only is this some of the best sushi/sashimi in town, but it also yields one of the most authentic Japanese appetizers and entrees. Get the monkfish liver to start and enjoy the omakase meals!

By far underwhelmed. I did omakase it was the same "standard" assortment that everyone around me had and the chef didn't even know the fish when asked. Completely overrated.

Incredible shrimp tempura sushi, fried oyster sushi, and mochi icecream.

The sushi at table service wasn't anything special, though I've heard the sake bar omakase is better

Service was not good. Sushi was sub-par. Wouldn't come here again for how much we spent.

The folks at Kanoyama are a head above the rest, with specials like hamachi carpaccio with yuzu juice and sea salt, sea conch sashimi, and Tasmanian ocean trout.

To start, I highly recommend Kusshi and Kumamoto oysters, avocado king crab roll and Black Cod appetizer. Also, you'll never go wrong with omakase.

Sit at the sushi bar and order the omakase... on the expensive side, but worth it, and you'll be mesmerized watching the sushi chefs create their masterpieces.

Slow service. 30-min wait isn't worth it.

A very affordable and high quality omakase. The fatty tuna with mint is quite good, as is their monkfish liver. We recommend gong with a few people, ordering a ton, and sharing.

The corner East Village eatery, run by laid-back kitchen vets Nobuyuki Shikanai and Daigo Yamaguchi, turns out top-notch nigiri that stands toe-to-toe with some of its pricier counterparts. Read more

The Omakase Sushi at Kanoyama's at sake bar counter (not the sushi restaurant section) with chef Nobu changed my view of sushi in NYC. Great sushi exists in NYC! It's not cheap, but not Masa pricey. Read more

I was disappointed with the $110 chef's tasting menu - while we were getting little soups & weird apps, all the folks around us were getting hand-fed sushi via the $45 mini-tasting. Do that instead.

Best sushi I ever had! The omokase sushi is worth the extra money. It is out of this world. I've been eating sushi since I was a kid and this place blows away any sushi I have ever eaten. Love it!

From one sake lover to another: if you like dry and smooth (not sweet) - get the hakkasian or the otokoyama. #cantsayno

If you're with a large party call in advance for the tuna rib and prepare to scrape it off the bone! P.s. the choice and quality of the oysters and fish from the homeland is phenomenal
