Built in 1898 as a Yiddish vaudville house, the Sunshine Cinema offers first-run independent and foreign film as well as non-traditional programming.
artisanal movie snacks. we get what we deserve.
Regular screenings of The Room, Hi Denny!
There are better indie movie houses in New York, but this place has pretty big screens and generally alright programming.
Great place to watch The Room!!
Excellent curation and stadium seating
Most handsome and comfortable theater around, solid indie programming
Stadium seating which is nice and interesting concession food, not just typical theater snacks
Great assortment of indie flicks and special events. Concession stand has lots of different popcorn flavor add-ons.
Cute Indy film house.
Don't underestimate how comfortable the small theaters are. Super cozy!
Get the ice cream sandmich!
Really nice indie cinema. The bigger screens have stadium seating, which gives it a leg up over Angelika.
Have a great deal for a economy size popcorn and drink that is perfect for one person and you don't feel fat after eating a whole bag of popcorn! Also the seats are very comfortable
Comfortable theater that frequently shows the films I want to see.
Cool place but $13.50 a ticket hurts
Apple cinnamon buttered popcorn ftw
They need to allot more time between shows. Seating 10 minutes before sucks. I could of sern A Most Violent Year at Lincoln Square at 2:00 pm same showtime. But in my seat 25 minutes prior.
Another classic indie staple of NYC ... A short walk from Katz's Deli & great popcorn
Great for indie movies and often shows classics at midnight
One of the best cinemas in NYC. Always great movie selection, comfy seats and best of all Free Popcorn Powder!
Best picture, sound, and seating I've found in the city.
Amazing movie theater with an inspiring selection of movies - ALWAYS. They also have the best midnight screenings EVER. EVER.
Great part of ny history such a cool theaters. Don't forget the yummy popcorn topping ;)
This independently-run movie theater will play some hard-to-watch films. I've seen screenings of "The Room" and Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises" here; keep an eye on their website for details!
If Paul is around, tell him Alex says hi.
Awesome selection of midnight classical movies.
Lots of cool indie selections. Clean, cozy.
Love this Theater
Best spot to catch festival head-lining movies. Great friendly staff and nice theaters for sure!
Super friendly and excellent movie selection!
Be sure to come here to catch a midnight flick, or really at any time. The selection of independent films can't be beat!
The iced lattes are excellent.
Goodness, I feel bad for the staff that have to clean up all of the plastic spoons after screenings of "The Room"...
They don't allow outside food and drink... Boo!!! :(
The do cult classics Friday and Saturday night. My date brought me to see Space Jam here recently! https://www.facebook.com/BonfireApp
The top level has a balcony with a great view of Houston Street
A great slice of NYC history! Use to be an old vaudeville theatre back in the day
Beautiful building and comfortable seats but the staff is not a friendly and courteous as some other Landmark locations.
It was so wonderful to see the Godfather on the big screen
They actually pop fresh popcorn here. As a result, the popcorn is delicious!
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation playing 12/21 and 12/22 at midnight - Mele Kalikimaka!
Two words: POPCORN TOPPINGS. Get them.
This place is always the beginning of epic love stories in normal lives.
Came all the way from New Jersey just to see Perks of Being A Wallflower, it's not even playing in NJ.
Walk across Houston street, stare in awe at the facade, then walk in and enjoy an indie movie. You might run into your favorite movie star, cause the cinema hosts a lot of premieres.
