Built in 1936. Recognized venue of Elvis' first professional rock-n-roll show, the Levitt Shell is an outdoor performing arts pavilion in the heart of Midtown, Memphis in the beautiful Overton Park.

1954, Elvis played his first paid gig at the Shell. The headline act that evening and big star at the time was Slim Whitman. Elvis stole the show and Whitman went on to sell over 100 million albums.

Built in 1936, the Shell once hosted acts like Elvis and Big Star. After years of disrepair it reopened in 2008 with help from the Levitt Foundation and is once again a great place to see live music.
Last summer dirty dozen brass band came for free. Doesn't get much better.
Bring a blanket, some nosh and a friend or two. A lightweight jacket or sweater wouldn't hurt as it tends to get cold in the fall. Excellent shows though.
