    The Viking statues were commissioned by Eben Horsford, a Harvard professor who believed Vikings colonized Boston 500 years before the Puritans. He also invented baking powder.

    On a nice day it's the best view of Boston. Walk across (recommended) on the side near the Museum of Science for less traffic and wider sidewalk. Of course the other side has the better view.
