Great ramen without the Ippudo crowd. Medium-thick pork broth and softer noodles.

My favorite ramen place in the city but it hasn't been open for months.

    Chelsea · November 18, 2014
  • Max L.

One of the first ramen places I went to in manhattan. Fond memories. Unfortunately the competition have out perfected these ramens.

    Max L · September 29, 2014
  • Ruby A.

Try the Tonkatsu and have them make it spicy - better than the spicy miso (which is still pretty good.) Simple, good ramen. Asahi on draft is good too!

    Ruby Anaya · September 12, 2014
  • Artem K.

Unbeatable lunch offer: gyozo + ramen + fried rice for $10. And it's delicious as well! Tonkotsu ramen is my personal preference.

    Artem Kolotilkin · September 11, 2014
  • Nathan Y.

Great lunch special! Half ramen, rice and gyoza for < $15

    Nathan Yuen · August 19, 2014
  • Michael M.

My favorite ramen spot based on quality/convenience. Tonkotsu is the best, specify thick noodles like from the ChanPon (or get that if you're hungry & like seafood). +side curry or chahan (fried rice)

    Michael Muse · August 16, 2014
  • Julia M.

    Good lunch special.

    Julia M · August 15, 2014

Good and dependable ramen for the right price. Don't forget a side order of fried rice!

    Richard Lau · August 14, 2014

Awesome food and friendly staff. I guess the only downside is it's cash only, but it's worth a trip to the ATM.

    Alia 👻 · August 6, 2014
  • Matthew M.

Great authentic, low key ramen spot. Cash only, nearest ATM is next door at the Dunkin' Donuts

    Matthew Michihara · August 5, 2014
  • Lilah

The miso ramen is delicious, but pretty greasy - left it standing for a few minutes and a good few millimeters of oil collected along the top. Its cheap and the people are super nice, though.

    Pork Katsu Curry!! 👍🍛 yassss!!!!

    Aimee Astillero · May 16, 2014

Tonkotsu ramen is good but only one slice of pork. Order appetizer or extra pork if you want more protein.

    Terry Y · April 12, 2014
  • Nic S.

Ask for the special vegetarian menu! A solid 3.5 stars.

Get the Tonkatsu Ramen; it's not as salty as most other places around the area make it. And there's a really happy waitress that works there -- make sure you say hi to her.

    Ramen heaven

    Nicole Casella · August 23, 2013

Ask for the thick noodles (like the ones they have in the Chanpon). The mini-curry and mini-chahan (fried rice) are both excellent, the latter with the white pepper they put on the table.

    Michael Muse · July 26, 2013

Make sure to check the white boars with staff recommendations. E.g. the Okonomiyaki isn't listed on the menu.

Vegetarians beware! The 'Vege Ramen' and Kinoko Tofu Ramen are not actually vegetarian (both contain pork broth).

This no-frills ramen spot—with plenty of seats to spare for a procession of NYU students and Japanese regulars—is a solid backup plan for anyone who doesn't want to wait for a table at nearby Ippudo. Read more

Skip the starters and go right for the ramen. You literally can't go wrong with any variety. ...The spicy bowls are not for the faint of heart, so be advised.

Hands down better than totto ramen. Don't know why those other places even try.

A long-time favorite of mine, Menkui-tei never does me wrong, though it leaves me thirsty at times with it's slow-ish service. That said, ramen + fried rice/curry combo is one of the best deals in NYC

Try Mabo Men (ramen with sauteed spicy tofu & ground pork in soy sauce flavored broth) if you are looking for a hearty dish. Only cash is accepted for payment.

You'll need to make some noise to keep your water glass full, but other than that Menkui Tei is a solid, happy Japanese restaurant with food that's ordinary in Japan but much appreciated stateside.
