My favorite ramen spot based on quality/convenience. Tonkotsu is the best, specify thick noodles like from the ChanPon (or get that if you're hungry & like seafood). +side curry or chahan (fried rice)

This no-frills ramen spot—with plenty of seats to spare for a procession of NYU students and Japanese regulars—is a solid backup plan for anyone who doesn't want to wait for a table at nearby Ippudo. Read more

A long-time favorite of mine, Menkui-tei never does me wrong, though it leaves me thirsty at times with it's slow-ish service. That said, ramen + fried rice/curry combo is one of the best deals in NYC

Ask for the thick noodles (like the ones they have in the Chanpon). The mini-curry and mini-chahan (fried rice) are both excellent, the latter with the white pepper they put on the table.

Try Mabo Men (ramen with sauteed spicy tofu & ground pork in soy sauce flavored broth) if you are looking for a hearty dish. Only cash is accepted for payment.

The miso ramen is delicious, but pretty greasy - left it standing for a few minutes and a good few millimeters of oil collected along the top. Its cheap and the people are super nice, though.

Try the Tonkatsu and have them make it spicy - better than the spicy miso (which is still pretty good.) Simple, good ramen. Asahi on draft is good too!

Skip the starters and go right for the ramen. You literally can't go wrong with any variety. ...The spicy bowls are not for the faint of heart, so be advised.

Unbeatable lunch offer: gyozo + ramen + fried rice for $10. And it's delicious as well! Tonkotsu ramen is my personal preference.

There are "better" ramen places in NYC but Menkui Tei is my favorite. You never have to wait, there's seating for groups and the ramen is reliable. Heart warmth.

You'll need to make some noise to keep your water glass full, but other than that Menkui Tei is a solid, happy Japanese restaurant with food that's ordinary in Japan but much appreciated stateside.

Awesome food and friendly staff. I guess the only downside is it's cash only, but it's worth a trip to the ATM.

Tonkotsu ramen is good but only one slice of pork. Order appetizer or extra pork if you want more protein.

Great ramen without the Ippudo crowd. Medium-thick pork broth and softer noodles.

Make sure to check the white boars with staff recommendations. E.g. the Okonomiyaki isn't listed on the menu.

Num 12 and 13 have most volume. Num 13 is no soup. Num 12 has lots of veggies, not lotta meat, though. Still really good.

I love the curry ramen with am extra boiled egg. The flavored boiled egg is a soy sauce egg. The reg boiled egg is more yokey which makes it awesome.
