Great all you can eat Sunday American comfort food brunch. While there aren't any real speciality dishes, every dish is cooked just right. The only problem is the 2 hour wait. Valet parking is cheap.
The beautiful limestone building on the National Register of Historic Places offers Deep South charm, with water served in mason jars, corn muffins, and broiled rainbow trout with cornbread stuffing.
I have been loving place for years! Its the only restaurant I enjoy waiting for a table. Go to the bar area in the back and sit by a cozy fire while the mixologist prepares you something special.
Sunday brunch is AMAZING! We were here on Easter and the food was delicious and abundant. I usually hate buffets because food gets cold but this buffet was out of this world. $4 bloody Mary's too!
Go on Sundays between 10:30 and 2:30 for their buffet brunch. But be forewarned, the wait is CRAZY long no matter what time you go. Longer parties wait the longest. It's definitely worth it though. Be
The Ribs, Meatloaf, Chicken Tender Salad, Jalapeno Hanger Steak, Mac n Cheese, Green Chilie Grits, Bacon Cheese Dip, Bread Pudding, w/ Blind Mules & Ruby Red's. Everything Was beyond Amazing Perfect
Have been here twice & no one has left disappointed. Waterloo Compound is my cocktail of choice, all the food delivers (yummy green chile grits!) Seems to be constantly packed, so make a reservation.
This place is amazing. Nothing on this menu lacks taste. We did 3 dishes and split them. I recommend the meatloaf, Mac and cheese or the habanero steak.
The shrimp with blue cheese grits and wilted greens was outstanding. The seasonal white lightening my husband thought went down smooth, I didn't care for it however it did smell like cucumbers!
The brunch is out if this world. Start off with an incredible $4 bloody or pomegranate mimosa, don't miss the candied yams, cornflake chicken, jalapeño sausage, king casserole and bread pudding.
Comfort food and cocktails on a big back porch; a calm sanctum around the corner from the chaos of Austin Convention Center. Gets very crowded, so make reservations and avoid peak hours.
Comfy southern decor with an outdoor patio and bar. Delicious southern cooking and excellent Silvermoon Margaritas. Can't go wrong with the chicken and waffles, corn bread, and large desserts.
Waited an hour for the best brunch buffet we've had in a long while! Texas casserole, chorizo tamale scramble, and bread pudding were my favorites. Service with a smile, too, and great OJ! Yum
You can sit at the bar and get full service. This is a way to avoid the wait for Sunday brunch. Show up at 2:15 right before buffet shuts down at 2:30. Tips for Sunday Funday people!!
Started off w/the popcorn (delish). I got the pork chop which was juicy. If you have anything at this place - try to green chile cheese grits. You will thank your taste buds later!
The corndog-style shrimp are a novel concept, but lack flavor. The batter could use a punch & the shrimp need a marinade. The trout is tasty but relies heavily on the bacon cornbread stuffing.
I eat at bar on a dead day, Jan. 3, by myself. Joy is bartender. She leaves at 3 pm and check is $45 wine and $20.00 food. I pay and leave a $15 tip. The house buys not a single round. Don't like it
SUPER delicious food for very reasonable prices! You even get popcorn to start your meal. Try the Chicken Almondine or Jalapeno Hangar Steak. You actually won't be disappointed with anything.
Green Chile Macaroni is incredible! Very very tasty. I got a side of mashed potatoes and was underwhelmed. Very plain. The potato wedges were much better and had tons of flavor!
Don't let them sit you outside when it's 90+ unless you want to sweat through your meal. Management needs to relax sitting arrangement - they only sit complete parties? NY restaurant wannabe.
Some others say that the trout is the best. We agree its great, but don't forget the jalapeño cheddar grits and the Dr. Pepper chicken- not to miss. Here, it's way too hard to save room for dessert.
Comfortable and familiar, relaxed and easygoing, Moonshine greets guests like family. Serving up great cooking with an innovative take on classic American comfort food.
Flat iron steak was delicious and cooked as I like it. Very tired, juicy and satisfying even though it's a top sirloin cut. Atmosphere is great and very nice staff.
Don't do brunch at Moonshine if you have social anxiety disorder or your family is willing to witness you drink through said disorder. Other than that, really great place.
This place has the best brunch!! $17.95 for all you can eat. And it's SO good! Warm cinnamon rolls, broccoli cheese casserole, king ranch chicken...YUM!!!
Came on a Saturday night. There was a long wait, so we got drinks at the bar beforehand. They were very good! Great food, great atmosphere, great service!
Corn dog shrimp appetizer for $12 I would pass on these next time. It's just a shrimp on a skewer dipped in corn dog batter. If the shrimp was blacked or had flavor it would be better.
Order the Rainbow Trout with Corn Bread Stuffing, the Moonshine "corn dog" shrimp, and the signature skillet apple pie for dessert. Then do it again the next night.
my favorite place in downtown Austin, try the back bar (patio) if there is a wait. Chicken and Waffles is my favorite. Old School but nice
The Green Chile Macaroni was amazing! It was like a Mexican style elote w chicken and macaroni. I also liked their cornbread and sweet potato fries!
"Get a bloody mary. Wow." ??? By far the most disappointing bloody mary I've ever had. Just weak mix and vodka. While strong, I've had better on airplanes. Skip it for a pomegranate mimosa.
I had the blackened cat fish and the apple pie. All kinds of awesome! For a drink, try the strawberry moonshine mixed with hard lemonade.
Had never eaten here until a month ago. Ordered a beef fajita salad and subbed for chicken & it was quite possibly largest and tastiest salad I've ever had at a restaurant.
The green Chile Grits are amazing!! Shrimp , grits and collards is a absolute must try!! * Was my first time having and was in awww!!! Amazing!!
$4.95 for kids chicken tenders and fries. Son seemed to really enjoy them they where more juicy then other places.
All of the appetizers are awesome, including the garlic bulbs, homemade potato chips and brie & toast. Mojitos are awesome. Lot's of vegetarian choices. Yum!
Do the corn bread stuffed trout. You'll feel good about yourself for ordering fish but realize it's satisfying when everything comes drenched in butter.
Split the sweet potato pecan pie. It's quite literally a whole pie. Ordering it with someone else ensures you won't try to eat the whole thing yourself.
The catfish i had was divine. Order the bacon dip. I loved the old fashioned. Overall I had a great dining experience and had good service
Sip on a refreshing cocktail while nibbling on fresh cornbread and enjoying the people watching. Then dive in to some of Austin's most authentic fare - chicken fried steak or mac 'n cheese.
My husband says "Best Chickem Fried Steak ever" I loved the Rainbow Trout! Plan on long wait and eayint "out" as in outside despite triple digits.
Moonshine is big on southern charm and atmosphere. The chicken and waffles are out-of-this-world amazing. Brunch game = strong.
Happy hour Monday through Friday with half price appetizers and discounted drinks. My Favorites, corn dog shrimp, hard lemonade, and ruby slipper... Yumm!
Flat iron steak, corn flake chicken salad was delish. Impressive wine list. ,Actually, the greens were pretty close to mama's.
Food was pretty good, and the waiter friendly, but he forgot part of my order even after I reminded him, and we were w/o bevs most of the time.
You wouldn't think that you get so good food so close to the convention center. The chicken and the steaks are delicious.
I'm sure its been said a thousand times but the green chile mac is amazing. Slightly spicy, loaded with chicken and wonderfulness.
Chicken fried steak was crazy huge but very good. Makes a good meal for two and order a couple of moonshine drinks!
