It took 14 years and a team of 400 sculptors, led by Gutzon Borglum, to complete this massive "Shrine of Democracy," dedicated in 1941.

I was expecting a much more noisy and commercial place. Instead it was well made, lots of information presented in a tasteful way. Clean and nice architecture. And proper quality in shops. Go there!

Walk around the park! There's a trail that takes you closer to the monument, a must see! Also, if you drive on by car it's $11 for a year pass!

Must see. Beat the crowds by going early in the morning. Only a $10 parking fee for each car. Great vantage points from everywhere. President's trail is nice walk.

Worth the view of the video! But, if you have large hips/are heavy set don't expect to be comfy. Seats in theater are made for smaller people. Gorgeous!

If visiting South Dakota also don't miss the Badlands, Crazy Horse, Black Hills, Wall Drug, and watch a shoot out in Deadwood! Also try a Bison Burger.

1000% worth the trip. Stay in keystone so you can come back to watch the evening show and see the monument lit up.

Always one of the highlights of my trips to the Black Hills. Go in the morning for the best shots of the Presidents before the sun casts more shadows on the faces.

Take time to walk the Presidential Trail that will lead you to the base of the monument, directly below the four famous faces. And - keep your eyes open for sure-footed mountain goats!

It's still really nice to see in winter and there are lots of things to do in the surrounding area. Plan to be around for a couple of days!

I have been here an its an amazing place. The Presidents walk is wonderful an at night the Presidents memorial gets lit up with lights after an educating speach.

If you have been here once, do you need to go again? The way it has become so commercialized really takes away from the experience! Plan to spend a lot of money...

For a more remote and much less crowded view of the monument, head out on Iron Mountain Road, about a mile up the hill from Wolf People Campgrounds.

If visiting in the summertime start out with the hike around the mountain, then cool off in the museum and gift shops. Super informative and fun!

If you're only here for a quick photo and want to avoid the parades of tourists, there's a free parking pullout on the upward slope. It's very small and only fits 5-6 autos.

Purchased the $80 National Park Annual Pass at a different NP which says valid at any federal recreation site. Well guess what this federal recreation site is NOT included! $11 entrance fee!!

Rainy day spoiling your view? Make sure you have Michelin wiper blades to clear the way so you are able to take in the grandiose view of the Founding Fathers in all their glory.

Rupiah have to pay for parking, so it encourages you to walk around the monument rather than just stop for a photo!

The presidents' noses are 20 feet long, each mouth is 18 feet wide, and each eye is 11 feet across. Only 17 miles away is the Crazy Horse memorial, which is the largest outdoor sculpture in the world.

Very beautiful. This was main reason I went to visit South Dakota. I would go there by bus tour so you can see more of Rapid City as well as Mount Rushmore.

$11 fee for "parking" at the top. They accept credit cards. Parking Level 3 is easiest but not covered.

The twisting, winding road up to the monument is a posted 25mph - and is strictly enforced - but ends with one of the country's greatest vistas.

A neat stop on a road trip but not worth the massive detour or the $11 parking fee at the memorial.

Lots of cops hang out on the road leading up to Mt Rushmore - the signs say 25 MPH for a reason (there are lots of wild animals wandering around and I don't mean tourists) so OBEY them!
