Definitely get a ticket in advance which offers skip the line. You could spend hours and hours there by yourself using multimedia tours or get a tour guide. We used Gray Line. Mind the dress code!

From June through October the Vatican is open until 22:30 on Friday nights. Reserve tickets in advance, and the dinner included is well worth the 15€ - all you can drink wine!

The museum is amazing, full of fantastic paintings and frames, you end up staying for at least 3 hours in the museum. Place full of history and beatiful things. I recommend going to the Chapel last.

Give yourself at least 2 1/2 hours to make your way around. There's an overwhelming amount to see, and some places you'll want to linger for a bit, like the Sistine Chapel and the Statues Courtyard!
  • Veronica G.
Absolutely must to book online... Otherwise the queue is very huge. My time was at 1, but I was inside at 12.15, no one arguing... It's worth to take audio guide or guided tours

Buy the audio guide or go with a tour group. So many extraordinary and wondrous sculptures, structures, and paintings to see. Hearing the history is a must. We had a great guide through Explorica

The summer evening tours on Friday nights beginning in May are less crowded and have a magical feel to them. The museums are overwhelming to take in on one visit, but the Sistine Chapel end is perfect

Buy the ticket online in advance, it really works and you can skip the line! You can make the tour in 2 hours without stress and finish with coffee break in the main garden. Lovely place!

If you don't have a guided tour on the day of your visit, skip the long lines and try to find a What a Life tour group. Had a great experience with Angello--worth every penny!!

Incredibly crowded so you can't really stay and admire anything, instead you just go with the sea of people. Come with time since it's huge and buy the ticket with a tour so you skip the line

Completely worth the crowds for the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman antiquities, not to mention the stunning decor, from frescoes to carvings. Book online for as early a slot as you can wake up for.

Make sure to book your tickets online because the queue is crazy. If you queue on the day you might have to wait at least 1 hr. Plus people asking you to buy stuff& tickets for 2x the original price.

Book the ticket online, it's €4 for the fee but worth when you see the queue. Renting an audio guide is not that worth the money to me but still a good option. Too many tourists, go with the flow 😩

Best way to access the Vatican Museums is with a skip-the line ticket. If you are planning a visit, the Early Morning Voucher is your best option. Enjoy an early access at 7:30 am to avoid the crowd.

A must visit indepentent city inside Rome. 15 € entrance fee, Roma Pass is not valid cause this is Vatican not Rome. Make the whole tour, not use shortcut to Sistine Chapel. This place is amazing.

Amazing and gorgeous and breathtaking, but DEFINITELY get skip the line passes, as the line just to enter can extend far out into St. Peter's Square.

If you don't spare in expenses: Get to Piazza di San Pietro by Via della conciliazone. men and women sell line-free ticket to the museum and the Cappella Sistina with tourguide included in the price

Beautiful architecture and art collection, but don't expect to relax and take your time to enjoy it. Your basically dragged in a continuous flow of people heading for the Sistine chapel.

Definitely get a "skip the line" pass, the line stretches very far out. It's beautiful, a little disconcerting (it's built on exploitation of religion), but so much history. You will get claustrophobn

The museum was gorgeous and so huge !! The price was good ..only 8 euros for university students and 16 euros for everyone! University students must have student pass with them :)

Pretty huge. Walk through possible in one day, but if you want to know about what you see you've got to take a guide (takes much more time then). A absolute must see when visiting Rome!

If you stand in the midpoint of the left (or right) fountain and the obelisk, all the columns will line up and it'll look like only 1 column per row.

the spiral staircase by Bramante (which is not publicly accessible now) is really fascinating, and we could easily see the copy at the exit of Vatican Museum and in the Palazzo Barberini by Borromini.

Overwhelming: the amount of visitors and art/exhibits. The audio guide (at least the English version) offers a lot of info, but the stories could be more interesting. I liked the pinacoteca best.

You should not even consider going anywhere near Vatican without a ticket. Prepare for loads of people, watch over your things and if you want to see EVERYTHING you'll probably have to go a 2nd time.

Be prepared you're gonna be gone by the crowd eager to reach Sistine Capella. Be ready just turn your head from one side to another and relax because most likely there is no way to step back...

Safe yourself a lot of time and order your tickets in advance through online booking. The museum itself is fantastic, but can leave you feel a bit overwhelmed.

Awesome collection of art, but go far from touristic season, otherwise even breathing will be a challenge, let alone moving!

A magnificent museum, to be seen with time, a lot of time. Don't hurry to the Sixtine Chapel. In the Raphael Rooms check every little detail. And if you can check the gardens.

Do not forget to visit pinacoteca, the Raphael's works there are simply fantastic! They capture the imagination, soul and mind, and you can't take your eyes from!

Book a tour through Walks of Italy. We enjoyed the Sistine Chapel with maybe 20 other people because they are allowed to enter the Chapel before the public.

Get the OMNIA Vatican and Rome card to skip the lines for St. Peter's Basilica, and Vatican Museums! Includes a pass for public transportation. Value for money!

You must go there, and be sure to have a audioguide if not visiting with a tourguide. Perhaps reading about it before your visit is a good idea 👌🏼
  • Alèxia S.
I think it's a place for historian people, but if you haven't been there before, then (I think) you should. But you must know that you cannot take pictures at the Sistine Chapel.
  • ✨#IamRomdelacrème✨
So much history and splendor to witness. Having a cognizant guide will make your experience so much more enjoyable. We highly recommend this museum!

If the line is insanely long to get in, you can buy advance tickets at the office to the left of St. Peter's Basilica off the square.
  • Laurenz L.
Worth seeiing, but try to go on a less crowded day. It's unbelievable how many tourists stand in your way and the sixtine chapel is just a disaster, you're pushed in with 1000 other people.

Either show up at 8am without a ticket or buy them online. We went at 830am with reservation and it was pratically empty. Best time to go. St Peters was empty and beautiful.

Have a plan for if you get separated from your people and don't have cell phone service — it happened to my wife & I. Spent hours looking through thousands of people & only dumb (devine?) luck helped.

Sixtine Chapel it's hardly a Chapel, more of a room full of people and guards telling you to move and be silent. It's beautiful and amazing, but the experience could be better.

I would recommend buying a guided tour from an outside company to skip the lines and get through as much of the buildings as you can! Don't want to get trapped in a line and not see as much!
