Currently the museum holds over 150,000 collected works, impressive results after receiving a humble start of only eight prints and one drawing.

Got to come here for free as an NYU student (corporate membership). Undoubtedly one of the best NYU perks. Became a regular here and still one of my favorite places to go in the city. Love the store.

Protip: if you bring a bag, you will need to check it in. To steal the art you will need a Thomas Crown Affair scheme. Plan accordingly.

Members and students that attend schools with agreements with the museum can watch films in their theater for free. They show most of the Oscar nominated films during awards season.

Looking for a nice, relaxing day, give this place a try. Those who support the "arts" will definitely appreciate the culture. Btw, my ooooooold college ID still granted me a discount. Kudos!

Always worth a trip to see some classics like Starry Night, Water Lilies and Persistence of Memory. Try and avoid the weekends if you can, as it really fills up on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The Matisse: Radical Invention exhibit is excellent and not to be missed, closes Oct. 11. After, head to The Modern for the "modern" martini at the bar.

If you are a CUNY student you get in for free. It's a large museum with lots to see. I recommend the 4th floor first and don't forget the exhibitions like Diego Rivera.

They don't make any advance notice of when they are closing. When that happens, the staff rushes everyone out of the museum.
