This is a place you have to visit in your life. The horrors that took place here are hard to believe untill you see it with your own eyes. The guided tours are good and available in various languages.

You can do both Auschwitz and Birkenau in one day but if you are interested in the details and archives you can spend several days. Don't forget to visit the country barracks with their own stories.

Whilst it is a study in human cruelty, it is vital that you visit the camp to understand and to make sure that it doesn't happen again. Go in the morning before the crowds so you have time to reflect

A must see!! We arranged our trip through escape2poland. It cost approx. £13 pp. They pick you up/drop you off at your hotel. Took around 1hr to get there by bus from Kraków. Full trip took 6hrs!

Must see place if you're interested in history. Guides are very informated and helpful. To make sure you've seen everything be there for two days.

Also, if you go by yourself with guidebook, you will roam and discover more places (tour only goes through some of buildings available to public - all of them are numbered 👇🏻).

(Part 2)...and it's great because it's organized by rooms you visit and friend told me guides practically memorize whole thing. So it's great for people who want to have whole thing on paper, too.
  • Moritz S.
It's not possible to find words for this place. What I can say it that we had a very nice female tourguide who also told some personal stories regarding family members who died in the camp.

Although it is sad Auschwitz is a must see place. Entrance is free but if you want to visit before 3 pm you have to buy a guided tour.

The organized tour is vey impressive. Try to book a week in advance as the English tours fill up and I saw some American tourists get upset at not getting to go on a tour straight away.

An awful part of history but a must see! Lots of tours run from Kraków, we used Escape 2 Poland, around £20 per person with hotel pick up included.

Definitely worth a visit. Something which you read in the history books is brought to life by the vivid descriptions of the tour guide

Please make sure to see both the base camp (Auschwitz) and the second part of the camp (Birkenau) where most of the extermination took place. Birkenau will give you a terrifying sense of scale.

A must visit if in the Krakow area. Truly harrowing but incredibly informative. There are a lot of companies who will arrange a tour. Entry is free.

"The one who does not remember history is bound to live through it again..." it is the most dramatic place where i had been, everyone should visit here to face up to a part of real history.

Take 2 to 3 hours for Auschwitz. Birkenau is huge and I'd say you need 3 hours to take it all in. It's overwhelming and surreal. There's a free shuttle bus between the 2 camps.

Wrap up warm if visiting in winter. Can be very cold. Summer can be too hot. Be respectful, don't take photos where they tell you not to, try not to take selfies. Use your brain and listen.

Everyone should visit this place once in their life. You have learned about it, seen it in movies,... but that's nothing compared to the real thing. And of course, take a guide...

A visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau is something that you must do before you die, it is truly moving. It is only an hour from Kraków by car, and should be a top priority to visit.

A truly eye opening experience. Nothing can prepare you for it. To see & feel what happened to the jews in this cruel barbaric way is life changing. It puts a whole new perspective on life.

When you enter between 10h00 and 15h00, you're obliged to join a group. You can come after 15h, start with Birkenau or join the group and wander off by yourself.

Come in as early as possible. Buses from Krakow take almost two hours so you'll have to leave the hotel really early. The tour is 40 zlotys and lasts for 3 1/2 hours. The tour is good value for money.

I had a bad feeling of going to Auschwitz and end up visiting the site as a “tourist attraction”. I was wrong. I understood how reading books don't compare to the concrete experience of being there.

Very touching place, good as the end of the trip, more like a 'one time visit', usually people don't go there twice. Worth visiting

If you're hard-of-hearing or deaf person, go before tour in building where wc and shop are and buy a black'n'white guide. I think it was pretty cheap... (part 1)

The complex of camps, which became a symbol of genocide, terror and the Holocaust, was established in 1940. During World War II the Nazis murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews, Poles, Gypsies.
