If you are going to the Old Quarter, and don't mind a little walking, you can get to the center for 7000dong with the bus #17. The stop is to the right. It will take around an hour

Ignore anyone offering a ride into Hanoi. It's a rip-off. There's a new shuttle bus running into Hanoi run by Transerco for 30,000 VND. Look for the yellow & orange bus (No. 86) on right as you exit.

Getting a visa is a pain. Saw a Chinese lady bribing Vietnamese official to speed up the process. Expect long queues if you are not from the list of privileged countries. Free wifi as a compensation

Backpackers, take the bus 17 It will take you to Hanoi just for 5000 vnd ($0.25!!). Mind you: 90 minutes and bus-stop on the other side of the airport. Just head for yellow-red buses and save

Taxi from the airport to the Old District should be about 350 k, and should take about 40-45 minutes. Taxis can easily be found outside the terminals, and they are marked (Mai Linh is a good company)

Can take bus No.86 (30,000VND) in right-front of arrival to lake Hoan Kiem (old town) or bus No. 7 (8,000VND) at the parking place to Cau Giay district.

Welcome to Vietnam! Don’t miss a chance to see Mu Cang Chai with its many terraced fields (mainly for rice) creating amazing landscapes which stretch down the mountain sides.

Relatively small airport. No train to airport. I highly recommend to install GRAB app, and call taxi from GRAB. Protect yourself from ripoff taxis.

Better go FOREX if you came with Chinese RMB currency. Because you will find it difficult to find RMB with VND anywhere. Hotels are exchanging other currencies except RMB.Translate App are very useful

Really far from the city and pretty small, but they are building a new airport/adding on to the existing one. Vietnam Airlines shuttle is the cheapest/most convenient way to reach Hanoi city center.

Better than Tan Son Nhat Airport, IMO. Fast and free Wi-Fi on domestic terminal. Very far from the city center and check-in is so slow so it's recommended to arrive early.

There's a minibus by Vietnam airlines which cost $3. Or you can also take Vietjet airlines bus or minibus for VND40000. Both will send you to Hanoi city near Quang Trung Street.

International departures has a small post office on checkin side: postcard, letter and envelope cost only 60,000 VND to send to UK! Good option if you've been struggling to find a PO during your stay.

Take a bus to the centre of Hanoi by Jetstar. Its last stop is 206 Tran Quang Khai street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi. Ticket price: 35,000 VND. Way cheaper than lousy taxi!

Consider using the new express bus to get in/out of town. Far cheaper than the hustlers or a taxi but not as arduous as the public bus. Look for Bus 86 for 30,000 VND.
