One of the best hospitals in the city. If you have to wait here a while, walk across the street and up a few blocks and grab a bagel at NY Bagels & Cafe.

here because you had a baby? OMG you had a baby!! befriend your nurse and then ask for extra baby supplies to take home: diapers, onesies, creams, perhaps even an extra baby. staff here is amazing.

Having a baby? Request a private room mins after the baby is born - worth every penny. Also, pack extension cords so mom can charge phone in bed. Speakers too. Fruit stand outside for daily snacks.

Good quality, free wifi by the cafe, with plenty of tables and no questions asked. Bring a tablet or laptop just to study here 24 (I believe) hours.

My ENT surgeon and all the support staff rocked. If you have valuables, leave them at home and resist repeated invitations to use the locker - unless you enjoy waiting 90 mins for the security staff.

As of january 2014, the main cafeteria is still down, wiped out by sandy. Plan on getting delivery if you want to eat anything that's not reminiscent of prison food.

Bring a notebook and write down the name of every nurse and doctor you encounter and every diagnosis and change in condition. You have to be the redundant data network and accountability watcher.

If you have a baby here make sure to make them show you the whole placenta so they don't have to go back in a few weeks later an do more surgery. Insist.

Ask for your pre CAT-scan barium to be diluted with crystal light lemonade. It is delicious. Also, have your friend get yelled at by nurses, police, and doctors.

If something doesn't seem right and the staff doesn't respond to your concerns, there is a patient advocacy office on the ground floor near elevators. Those folks will raise hell if you need them to.

The food in the cafeteria is decent, but the cafeteria tables get wiped down rarely and are pretty gross, take your food into the lobby and eat it on your lap.

The elevators are very slow. Always get in, even of it's going up instead of down. Because of the algorhythm in the elevators, you'll get there faster this way.
