An early-morning, Christmas Eve fire in the 'World of Primates' building killed 23 animals in 1995, all endangered species. In 1999, the 'Peco Primate Reserve' opened to replace the lost building.
If you have a family, get a membership! One visit a year and it practically pays for itself! You get entry to the Treehouse with it as well.

The big snapping turtle is named Meatball. He breathes air, so if you wait long enough, he'll have to move, and that is an impressive sight indeed.
Its a great place to bring your children (as an excuse to come yourself)!

America's first zoo, the best exhibits here are the Big Cats and the Primate Reserve. Watch out for peacocks, they're not as nice as they look!
I love this place.
Take some time between viewing the animals to admire the flora and fauna. There are some amazing trees to view at the zoo too.
Do the swan boats, they're silly but fun.

It's very annoying to come to the Zoo on a nice summer afternoon and find that most of the food and drink places are closed. Very dissatisfied.
Ask for a cool zoo map to find your way around easily
The new walkways in the sky for the animals were great. You can bring in your own snacks and drinks, too! They have strollers available for rent. Peacock stalking is also available.
Don't forget your sun block!
