If you have a pet and some time, take your pet to the outside relief areas instead of the one inside the terminals. The outdoor ones are on either side of the baggage claim doors in the grassy areas.

Pittsburgh is one of the most well designed airports. It served as a US Air hub until 2004 or so and now many gates are empty but the shopping and food is still superb and constantly being renovated.

    Jackson Gallagher · August 28, 2014
  • Doug Z.

Love this airport! Security lines are never very long and there are some great shops in the main terminal where all the concourse branch off from! Just wish the had shuttles or buses out. Upgrade!!

    Doug Ziska · April 2, 2014
  • Victor S.

There's an awesome place across from gate A11 where there are two power outlets and some seats. None of the nearby gates were in use so the area was quiet enough to take a call while charging up.

    Victor Soares · October 17, 2014

Head to Nature's Kitchen in the main food court...they've got some pretty decent Jerk Chicken chunks served on a bed of rice, with green beans and the Pesto pasta salad on the side. A delicious lunch!

If you just have one carry on item you can go through the express security lane which is one short line opposed to weaving through a huge long one- the alternate ckpoint only has 2 lanes- is slower!

    Jayne · July 25, 2012
  • K Y.

Traveling on Monday before 8 AM? Get here early. At 5:30 the line is starting to get long. By 5:45 it's 15 minutes. By 6 you're looking at an hour plus. At that point, go to alt checkpoint.

    K Y · June 11, 2012
  • Dafyd J.

The "alternate security checkpoint" (upstairs, by check-in) typically has shorter lines, fewer nudey scanners and vomits you out on the far end of the transit, ready for a quick escape. Use it.

    Dafyd Jones · September 18, 2011

Buy your drinks or snacks at Rite Aid. The prices there are the same as the street prices. You can also use your savings card ;) Everywhere else you'll pay steep airport/airplane prices.

    Jeannie · August 31, 2013

If you have some time before your flight, eat at Bar Symon in the central area (top of the escalator to terminals). Great service, great food, great beer list, and great value.

    Leah Sinsheimer · June 26, 2012

Traveling with a service animal? There's an animal relief area next to the post office in Concourse D. Even of you're not traveling with a svc animal, go anyway. Seeing the fire hydrant is worth it.

    Jenda · February 27, 2014

    1) Connect to "FlyPittsburgh" for a good Wi-Fi connection. 2) Purchasing the preferred upgrade at check-in is truly worth it. Zero line and first to board. 3) Fly often!

    Daniella Squicquero · March 26, 2014

Free WiFi, decent shopping for an airport and no single monopoly by any one airline keeps everybody fairly honest. Alternative checkpoint is nice for weekday mornings if you don't have PreCheck

    Ben Steiner · August 16, 2014

Hidden power outlet!!: check out the TGI Friday's in the center of the midfield terminal. There's an outlet behind the column in the bar entrance. Be kind, tip your server well!

    Corey Clayton · October 30, 2011
  • Sean S.

Seriously, skip the main TSA line and go through the alternate route. Never fails to blast through security using the alternate route. It's located on the top floor by United and restrooms.

    Sean Staley · April 9, 2015
  • Erin G.

Go to the alternate security check! Shorter lines! From the drop off area, enter ticketing area, then keep walking straight through to the opposite side. Go outside and follow the signs!

    Erin Graziani · July 15, 2011
  • Michael T.

For an excellent sit down breakfast, try Bar Symon, from renowned chef and Food Network star Michael Symon. Was fast and delicious!

    Michael Tchou · September 28, 2014

Please check to make sure you seat belt is securely fastened. Your seat back and tray table are in the full upright and locked position & all carry-on luggage is placed completely underneath the seat.

    Avery Jenkins · October 9, 2012

Last two times the alternate ckeckpoint was packed. Please DO NOT use the preferred check point unless you ARE preferred. If you need to ask what preferred is than you aren't so don't use it.

    Don Dibert · May 9, 2011
  • Kevin W.

Love free wifi without being forced to jump through any hoops. Need more charging stations tho. Love the post office and rite aid right in the airport gates. More airports need that

    Kevin Williams · September 1, 2015

Those awaiting transplant or transplant recipients can ask to be expedited through security to avoid exposure [and] request a gate pass for a loved one to escort & wait with you until you board.

Small make your own at Currito, Irish coffee with both and whipped cream to go from chilis, and sunglass hut at 6 am for when you inevitably forget your shades at home!

    Bianca Zeiler · June 15, 2011

Cut the kiosk wait and head down one floor for a check in kiosk to any flight! Works even at 3 am before the kiosks of the carriers start functioning. This check in kiosk is right next to the ATMs.

    Manasvi Somaiya · November 22, 2012
  • John R D.

TSA@PIT remains the most unprofessional, rude and inefficient TSA crew I've seen anywhere in US. There is something they misunderstand about duty vs. power. Too many appear to be on an odd power trip.

    John R Dallas Jr · January 13, 2013
  • Patricia C.

My home airport and I hate it. Security is crazy especially in the summer. Not enough plug outlets to charge up. They have free WiFi. If not from PA, no taxes on clothes so shop it up.

    Patricia C · September 3, 2011
  • Lori F.

Us Airways offers a $21 ticket upgrade that allows you to use the express security line. So worth it, I truly regret not doing that. Security here is incredibly slow.

Everything closes at 7:30pm on Sundays but McDonald's, so don't count on any food or shopping. Also, I have never seen the TGI Fridays near the Southwest gates open.

    Bethany Lang · June 20, 2011
  • Braden L.

Not sure what secret I'm missing but there is not a fast/short security line even alt is slow/long. Don't under estimate the amount of time for check-in. Longer than largest airports in world

    Braden Larmon · March 27, 2012
  • NoName N.

There is no priority line in the alternate security checkpoint. Avoid it at all costs if you have priority access (use the other escalator to go down if they force you to the alternate)

If you're a first-time visitor, start looking for dinosaurs as soon as you step into the airport. Pittsburgh is littered with dinosaurs, and the airport is no exception.

    Eric O · August 20, 2013

AVOID UNITED - 125 dollars for 6 pounds/2.75 kgs overweight bag and disregard for eurobonus status - plus, a very annoying "i don't give a damn" attitude at their business class/premier check-in desk

    Marco Busi · January 28, 2014

If you're looking for a great breakfast while you're waiting for a flight, try Charley's Grilled Subs near terminal A. Outstanding omelet made with real eggs.

    Brenda Askins · October 22, 2013
  • Astronaut P.

No Cell Phone Waiting Lot. But, at least at 1:45am on 2012-08-04, there's no cops so you can chill in your car at the arrival gates. Nice pre-9/11 nostalgia.

    Astronaut Poe · August 4, 2012

USAir is horrible. 3Rd deplane in 9 months. 14 late departures. But, Pittsburgh USAir folk are top notch. Friendly and empathy for the traveler. Not like USAir folk at IAH, who treat you poorly.

    Greg Michael · July 17, 2013

YES! RYAN SAID IT RIGHT! When yur stuff comes out of the xray machine slide down to the end so OTHER people can get their stuff Too! YOU are NOT the only one here flying! Show a little consideration

    Don Dibert · December 6, 2014
  • Eric B.

Worst. Airport. Ever. The plugs don't work, the "free" Internet didn't work at first, then was super slow, & bartender @ TGI Friday's had biggest attitude. Does that reflect the rest of Pittsburgh?

    Eric Buhi · February 4, 2012
  • Ben B.

If you are active duty go to the left of the security line where the special needs section is and they will check you in past the long ass security line

    Ben B. · September 7, 2011

Nicest TSA agents out of any International Airport I've been to. Probably jinxing myself by writing this, but very nice...never an attitude from them!

    A · September 20, 2012
  • Ryan G.

Pretty crappy airport. Looks dated, took about 25mins to get through security (in the alternate checkpoint), however it does have a decent range of restaurants.

    Ryan Gresty · November 13, 2013
  • Vina O.

Lots of shopping, and stores aren't allowed to mark up the prices like most airports. Also has Italian brand Pinko's only location in the U.S.

    Vina Ortiz · September 19, 2014
  • Jonathan A.

No surprise, but the Pittsburgh Welcome Desk people (downstairs by baggage claim) were charming and helped me pick a great run for the morning.

    Jonathan Adams · June 5, 2013
  • Jesse H.

Plan on charging your phone before you get to the airport because there are only 6 plugins in the entire airport!

    Jesse Howard · September 11, 2013

Try Nature's Kitchen just before security check to the left. They'll warm up the quiche and give a hefty portion of salad only 7 and change!

PIT was recently named the fourth safest airport by Travel + Leisure Magazine. Based on information from the FAA's runway Safety Report and individual runway safety data supplied by the FAA.

    Kirk Neal · December 23, 2011

The 28X bus costs $3.75 in exact change to go to Pittsburgh. Have your money ready, people behind you are glaring at you fumbling through your wallet/purse for change.

    Amol K · April 23, 2014
  • Connor G.

Be warned, to my knowledge, there is one and only one security line. You're gonna be waiting awhile. Nice airport other than that though.

    Connor Garrett · August 3, 2014

i like PIT, but it's floor tiles were laid pre- roller bags. rolling bags and suitcases sure do make a ruckus going through the landside terminal!

Enterprise rent a car closes at 11:30 pm. If you have a late arriving flight or your flight might delayed, book with National/Alamo which is open til 1:00am.

Mayorga Coffee Roasters in the center hub (between D and A) seems to be the best coffee option here. Try a double red-eye.
