People tend to check in during these times:
It's a very steep walk. There are a lot of rocks to climb on the way to potato chip rock.
Great hike up and you can get some amazing photos!...you are so high up that the views are just epic!!
Great, tiring (in a good way) hike. Only drawback is the line at the top for pictures, which can take over an hour.
The trail's all paved but expect a wait if you want to take a picture with the potato chip rock!
There's a long line just to go have a picture of it
Please DON'T bring your dog on a hot day, esp through the service road trail (3.6mi). It is an asphalt trail & we came across 4 dogs along the way suffering from heat stroke & blistered paws.
Take some water and an extra shirt if you sweat lol and be prepare for a line.
Amazing view and photo op if you don't mind waiting your turn in line.
Great hike! It's a long one but worth the photo op at the top. Be sure to go as early as possible & bring plenty if water
Wait in the line for a shot of you on potato rock
It was superb!!! I think pppl could go early morning. But please please take lots of water and have a good breakfast.
Ok... This is a serious hike, too hot between 12 and 4 pm, not for kids, or pets. We had an umbrella, was a plus, let us enjoy the trail. Took 2 hours up and 1 down. Med difficulty. No shade on top.
Get here early to avoid the midday heat, and bring a lot of water! Be prepared for zigzags and steep elevation.
Definitely worth the hike
Definitely bring food - like mixed nuts - and refuel along the way!
Take as many photos as you want. You deserve it!
3 hour hike from Lake Poway to the Chip plus parking & bathroom facilities, hot, dusty, chapparal, trash, crowds *vs* 1 1/2 hour to Chip from Hwy 67, no facilities, steep, paved, beautiful every step
Watch out for Rattle Snakes.
