This is a surreal experience. It's a must see while on the Big Island. You might even see a giant sea turtle. Best beach ever.

If you're lucky, you'll see some turtles. If you're not lucky, you still get to experience black sand that is smoother than riding a 40 ft wave. Be careful though: the sun gets super hot midday

The word black in the name of this beach should be changed to something more culturally sensitive I like charred lava granules or something that exemplifies the heritage and struggle of the sands past

This may not be the best beach for swimming, but it's incredible to see an all-black sand beach! Make sure you scoop some up and play with it; your hands stay clean! I kept expecting dirty hands.

Soo pretty! Bring water shoes, because the sand is pretty coarse. There are lots of volcanic rocks to hike around on which is really fun!

Great place to observe turtles. The water's tad chilly to swim and there're ants so keep an eye on your food.

Give the sea turtles their space, don't steal the sand, and take plenty of photos. Those are the rules. Learn 'em, know 'em, live 'em...
