This place broth beats Ipuddo imo, All the Ramen is good, but the spicy miso is probably the most unique. The shio tsukemen is a sleeper fav , cold noodles with hot broth just like I had in Tokyo.

Cold Clam Ramen: Features things like black sesame miso ramen, a well stocked vegetable ramen, and a cold noodle choice of baby clams in a shio broth. Read more

Crowds may line up at Ippudo, but the ramen here is just as delicious. We love the astonishingly hot “spicy miso ramen," but the tender-tongued should be spared and go with the shio ramen instead.

Place is good. I tried Shio Ramen and it was very plain. Also we tried spicy miso ramen it was very good! So I just poor some broth from spicy to Shio and it was perfect!

I love love the gyolou ramen. It is cabbage garlic and pork heaven. When I'm trying to be less of a fatty I do the vegetable ramen with chasiu-- its a much lighter meal.

Spicy miso here is totally underrated with other spots like Ippudo and Rai Rai Ken in the neighborhood. Skip the lines, try this place. The cold noodles (syoyu tsukemen) are also really good.

If you aren't up for ramen, their appetizers are cheap and delicious! I go in for the curry chicken rice and deluxe Zara. Absolutely delicious!

This Japanese chain may not make the best ramen in the city, but it's a good choice for the East Village, especially if you don't want to wait for Ippudo.

This Japanese export started in Tokyo before making the jump to the East Village; the shio broth here is unique for its nontraditional use of chicken and pork bones.

The ramen here is decent. Broth is flavorful, pork based with some seafood flavor. The roast pork was a little dry, noodles slightly over cooked, egg well cooked. Good prices and service friendly.

Very good spicy miso as others have recommended. Not too spicy. Incredible broth. Didn't think I was going to be a fan of the corn but it didn't take away from the flavor.

The shio tsukemen here is as good a bowl as any I've tried. Solid umami flavors from the scallop and pork. (And yes, extra pork is the way to go.)

The Shio ramen is a great alternative if you're not in the mood for a thick, heavy broth based ramen like Ippudo's.

This is a very fine bowl of ramen all around, but it's the broth that makes it one of our favorite dishes -- brick-red, zipped with plenty of chile, the miso base adding salty, nutty heft and backbone

RS says: Try the Spicy Miso Ramen. "The medium-weight miso is earthy and gritty, the level of heat higher than you'd ever expect, and the kernels of corn a cooling component. "

Great affordable ramen with generous portions. Pork Gyoza is killer. I recommend the shoyu ramen and ask them to hold the onions.

i find the ramen to be ok--a lighter broth than ippudo makes this a healthier option. but if i'm in the neighborhood during the day, i definitely pick up the rice ball special to go.

Huge fan of the tsukemen - just a huge ball of noods ripe for dippin in a porky salty scallopy seafoody broth. Good in summer OR winter.

Spicy miso ramen not that spicy but tastes way better than hiyashi chuka!! The hiyashi chuka noodles and sauce are tasty but the egg and pork was flavorless

It's not the best ramen you can find in the city, but decent enough for the price. An overall good experience. Just like the many Japanese restaurant around, it was small, cozy, and well-decorated!
