Train station is a piece of shit with about as much architectural integrity as Short Pump. Hopefully when the Main Street Station is expanded, this dump is relegated to a commuter station.

Dunkin Donuts is across the street and open at 530 am - has better coffee than the train station or train

Don't forget to pay for parking before departure if you plan on leaving your car!

    Lauren Bacon · March 24, 2014

You now pre-pay for parking at kiosks at the station, eliminating the long exit lines. Don't forget to write down or memorize your license plate number. You'll need it to pay for parking.

If possible, use Amtrak's Main Street station. Much better facility, beautiful really. Restaurants all around, and a much better parking situation.

In all the times I have left out of RVA I have always got in at least 30-50 minutes early to NYP. Train is the way to go!

Train from RVR to NYC seems to delayed every time at least 1 to 2 hours.

There's only one entrance/exit, so the parking lot is ridiculous.

    Robyn O'Neill · May 12, 2013
  • Laurie C.

The parking situation here is quite hairy and they rarely use the "lot full" signs. Prepare to be dropped off or get early and walk down Staples Mill.

Don't let cabs run meters till they turn in their ticket when leaving parking lot. It,s too crowded in the evening and can cost up to $10 before you exit.

Parking is hectic. Recommend finding a friend to drop you off, which is still painful due to all the double parking. The ticketing people are very friendly and advance tickets are cheap though.

This place is a shit show. Free for all parking and no organization. Don't come hungry or you will leave enraged

I enjoy business class on the early trains (kids aren't onboard) although many opt for the quiet car in coach. Generally I have two seats for me and the laptop, and no wait for the restroom!

The shop in the station actually has a great $6 on the go lunch deal which is better food than you'll get on the train.
