Remember it costs one swipe each way and you don't have the option to just stay on and ride back. They will make you get off and swipe back in.
Stuck in the streets? Glide through the streets! You can with the Roosevelt Iceland Tram - a bright red cable car in the middle of Manhattan. The view is worth a fortune but costs only a few dollars!
Good view on a sunny day and a different way to cross the river than subway or taxi. There are restaurants and a drug store on Roosevelt Island to refuel
Need to fill your metrocard for the q60 or q32 bus on he corner? The tram has a metrocard machine - closer than the 6 train machine blocks away
Great view of the city but the tram is not for those scared of heights. Just remember. Those bumps don't mean it's going to fall every time.
Take the tram to Roosevelt Island. Dont be the typical tourist and head straight back. Instead walk the waterfront down to Four Freedoms park and savor the amazing views of Manhattan.

Riverwalk Bar & Grill is located 1 block north of the Roosevelt Island station at 425 Main Street. Pick up drinks & sandwiches here before exploring the island. Or sit outside for lunch or a cocktail
For the cost of a subway ride (and you can use your MetroCard), you can take a cable car ride from Midtown Manhattan onto Roosevelt Island, which sits in the East River between Manhattan and Queens.
Second best bargain since the Staten Island Ferry. One swipe of the Metro Card; if you took the Subway here, it's a freebie transfer outbound and you next subway swipe is a transfer on the way home.

When you get off tram be careful when walking on paved pathway. Some pavers are lifted from frost heave- don't fall!
They recently redid the the station to include a roof to protect against the rain.

Look South to get a glimpse of Roosevelt Island's FDR Four Freedoms Park designed by Louis Kahn. The park will be opening Fall 2012!
Not just for commuters…tourists should take a ride not only for the fantastic views, but to go take a stroll around Roosevelt Island. A ride costs $2.25 each way.
