I used to go here as a kid because my mom was friends with the owner. It used to be an original style Mexican restaurant. Now it looks gringo-ized. Welcome to the sad reality of the new San Francisco.

Queso fundito dip was amazing. The free salsa was excellent as well. I'll be back for sure.

Tamales are delicious and sizable. Multiple (tasty) vegetarian options. If you eat in the restaurant, they bring you homemade tortilla chips and salsa, which both hit the spot. I'l definitely be back.

Tamale plate for $9 is HUGE. get the $12 platter w 2 tamales and split with a 2nd person. Also, yam+chèvre = excellent.

Friday nights: Go to a Diana Gameros live concert here (similar to Feist), good food, veg friendly, affordable. It's a pretty awesome reminder why SF is magic.

They just changed owners (late 2012) and are now "The Roosevelt"-- the menu is way slimmed down and the decor de-cozified. Historic photos are gone.

Please don't eat here. I'm terrified you'll love it and then I'll have to wait in a line for an excellent breakfast.
