The Snøhetta wing has vastly expanded the original Mario Botta building, though the new galleries don't benefit from much natural light. They are spacious, however, and the collection superb.

This museum has up to seven floors and could even take the whole day if you include reading and the time you spent on a particular art. I recommend starting at the 7th floor and working your way down

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rooftop Garden was conceived as a gallery without a ceiling. Designed by Jensen Architects, it is a 2011 AIA Institute Honor Award for Architecture recipient.

Go out to the terrace and catch your breath. There's a secondary one behind the oculus bridge that is less crowded.

They have a coffee shop, every museum should do this. We visited the Graphic Design Exhibition, the Photography and the Pop art. We still missed 4 floors.
