Artworks—including paintings, sculpture, photographs, folk art, and decorative arts from the colonial period to today—offer an unparalleled record of the American experience.
I like to bring my lunch to the atrium during the work week. It feels like you're picnicking by a stream on a warm spring day, no matter the weather outside.
Airy interior courtyard on a cold rainy or snowy day can't be beat. Backpacks are allowed as long as you carry them by your side. Gorgeous gift shopping at all price points in 2 gift shops.
Every few months you get a new featured exhibit so it will often have something new to see. Good for having quiet conversation.
It's great that no ticket is necessary
Always free, always a good time. Love all the Smithsonians.
I thought it was bigger, but I loved the building and the Civil War collection. Good memories in the heart of Chinatown.
Folk art is good. But the collection in general is a hodge-podge. There is better American Art at the National Gallery.
Less crowded of Smithsonians, but loaded with great American artists and sculptors. From 1600s to present day. Includes modern works of pop culture art that are eclectic. Great museum!
The contemporary exhibition is not big but great
You can save this museum until later in the day as it is open until 7PM while most others close earlier. Please verify because these things change.
I absolutely love the art here!
A hidden gem. Very gorgeous with a cool modern art section.
One of my favorite museums in DC--open until 7, not as many tourists thanks to its location off the Mall, great modern art collection, airy courtyard.
My favorite museum in DC. The national portrait gallery offers a lot of interesting modern art exhibits and a courtyard with gorgeous architecture.
One of the lesser Smithsonians - National Gallery of Art is way better.
One of my favorite museums. This place it literally attached to the Portrait Gallery. Check out the Kogod courtyard.
Art 🎨 meets history ⌛️ in this mammoth museum.
Love the paintings by Edward Hopper.
For me, the best part was the peek at how the conservation and restoration of some pieces of art works. Fascinating!
Great art and it's always quiet
Please pass by the information desk and ask about tours .. It provides great details without searching. Just remember the last tour is at 3:30 pm
Beautiful landscapes, folk art. Plus it closes at 7pm.
Start by going to the third floor, that's the spot for all Modern Art
"Where there is an open mind, there will always be a frontier."
Start on the 3rd floor
Amazing museum. As good as, maybe better, than the National Gallery.
It was interesting photographs and art pictures.
So much to look at. Be sure to set a day aside to see this wonderful museum.
one of the best collections of museums worldwide - and always free -
The atrium is a wonderful place to take a break with an infant or really anyone.
If you have trouble convincing your son to go to this museum, tell him it's actually the Boobies Museum.
Chef José Andres tells us he comes for here for a little escape: walking through the vast halls always inspires him.
Impressive! Enjoyed the folk art. Looking forward to coming back to explore the other two floors!
Be sure to walk between the buildings through the underground tunnel: great light installation, gelato and coffee bar, and fun museum shop!
Great gallery, fun to go if you like art, pictures and history. No as fun with children since reading and keeping quite is required.
Bring $5 cash for the Artomatic! 3rd floor.
The video game exhibit is underwhelming and small but all the rest of the museum is beautiful.
Great Museum. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to walk around. Go to each floor. Don't rush like I had to...I wish I saw more.
Food is so expensive. Also not much options to have :(
Take one of the daily docent-led tours or behind the scenes tour of the Lunder Conservation Ctr (Wed @ 3). Short on time? Stop by the Info Desk to get the Ten Highlights self-guided tour
You have to check out "the art of video games"!
