Beautiful day! Not as crowded as I had expected. Bathrooms were clean and the animals all fairly active which was good. The Zoo map though is much to be desired. Great day with the kids overall!

    Great trails, very clean.

There are seals that you can see from 2 viewing windows under water and above water. The seals do flips in the water and are awe maze ing.

Love love love this zoo! Plan for lots of walking, and on some steep hills, particularly if you take the metro -- the most sensible way to go, since parking is 20+.

    Lions and Bengal tigers!

It seems that you get what you pay for here. It may be free entry but I'd prefer to pay and see the animals treated to better conditions. Many enclosures are empty!

Incredible zoo, such an inspirational and remarkable place. We're so lucky to have the Smithsonian institute to preserve and protect some of our most endangered species.

The flamingo exhibit is often overlooked, but these beautiful bird are worth the detour.

Woodley Park is the official Metro stop, but Cleveland Park, the next outbound station, is an easier downhill walk. Also, many restaurants in station area.

This zoo makes for a great afternoon with its unusual selection of animals. The zoo was constructed in a very hilly park, so prepare for a challenging walk through it. Great fun for kids!

Pandas are awesome. Download the Smithsonian zoo app in advance. Paper map costs 5$ inside.

Check out the world famous pandas, Asian elephants, Andean bears, and sea lions! All for free! Avoid during school holidays and weekends if you can.

Free admission, but $22 for parking. Go in the winter - no crowds! Big ape house is smelly though.

The National Zoo is an amazing experience. It's even more amazing that it's free to enter. The animals appear to be healthy and the zoo keepers/biologists do a phenomenal job at educating the public.

Great place to go with the family, get ready to walk but it's worth it!

Great zoo, but go when the weather is not too hot or cold. You don't see as many animals out during extreme temperatures.

Set up not very user friendly. Path is curvy line with a bunch of dead ends coming off of it. Have to walk all the way back up the hill to get to exit. Pandas are cute & a lot of food choices.

Free admission. Just take the Metro and walk around. Nice in the evening, but most of the animals are resting by then.

There's all of two parking spots so if you plan on driving then maybe plan on not going to the zoo.
