Best Sushi on Upper East Side on NYC
Awarded one star (★) in the 2015 Michelin Guide for NYC restaurants.
Had some of the best meals of my life here. Omikase is worth it.
You will not regret spending the pretty penny on their omakase. Uniquely prepared morsels of beauty.
As someone who grew up next to a sushi bar in LA and has been a connoisseur since 5, I can say that this is by-far the best sushi I've had in NYC. Sit at the bar and order omakase and a nice saké.
One of my go to sushi spots. Omakase is very unique. Each piece comes with a special garnish or sauce that enhances the fish.
I think I saw god like five times tonight. Go omakase.
Great portion and quality chirashi sushi.
First time having omakase so can't really compare it to anything else. The quail egg one was my favorite though, was a mouthgasmmm 😋
Gari san was 49th sumo champion in Japan, the tea mug says.
Uni sushi costs normally around $9 a piece. Very fresh and flavorful.
The best uni gunkan sushi in New York. Sea urchin is so fresh and sweet. Michelin starred sushi-ya.
Master take on sushi with a modern twist
Go for broke and get the omakase
Ask for the iPad to scroll through different sushi pieces. Stick to the sushi pieces if you are a real sushi lover. And get the spicy scallop roll or hand roll.
Gari is great if you are looking for beautiful sushi beyond classic nigiri. come here for new flavor profiles, little twists, some bubbling novelty in your sushi!
One of the best sushi places in town. Order Uni and the Gari's selection. Just love this place.
The spicy scallop hand roll here is amazing. It contains mayo but it's divine. A must try.

Mortgage the house and order the omakase!
Best sushi on UES. No, arguably best sushi in Manhattan. 🍶🍣
Each sushi piece on the omakase menu has a unique twist and delicious. My fave was the snowcrab topped with uni. You start out wondering if you'll ever be full but we were satisfied after 9 pieces.
Tuna assortment was Amazing!! Tomato Salmon might be the best sushi I have ever had!!!
Omakase is amazing!!! However be warned, prices are as well.
The omakase is spectacular. Get some tamago to round it out!
Best sushi of my life. Get the omakase. Pricey but worth it.
When the waiter asks you if you've had enough omakase or have room for more, you know what to reply.
Did you know? Sushi of Gari is one of the only restaurants in the US where you can try out the TOTO Washlet S350e toilet seat (a Japanese bidet). It's true luxury (for your butt).
Request omakase at the bar NOT table.
Best sushi in all of NYC, hands down. The special salmon sushi piece with cooked tomato is an absolute must try.
Do the omakase. It will change your life.
Oysters may be baked in their shells, Goldeneye snapper paired with black truffles. Ask to try fish imported from Japan. – Green Guide Editor
Best sushi I've ever had - do the omakase! If it's available, get the fluke w/ egg and truffle oil. Just wild.
Their fried oysters were good! Along with their sake marinated cod and chirashi... Even their green tea ice cream tasted homemade 👘🍱🍣
Great omakase! One of the best in the city!
The tuna is so fatty and delicious, don't miss out on trying some
Ordering omakase is another level of sushi/sashimi that everyone should experience. 5 rounds, each leaving you more excited for the next. Pictures just don't do it justice.
Tuna of Gari and the uni are a must.
The Best Japanese Restaurant in NY
Best overpriced sushi I've had in the city (overpriced comparators being ushiwakamaru and nobu)
Best sashimi special and try the sea urchin sushi, can't find delicacy like that anywhere.
You have to try the Omakase!
Truly some of the best sushi in New York. Get the omakase and sit back and enjoy. But be warned this is a special occasion meal. If you indulge it may end up costing 4-5 hundred dollars!
7/10 not all that
Hands down the best sushi I've ever had. Order the Omakase!!!!
Money sushi.. No sauce required!
Fresh and creative omakase that's worth a try, but just know that for the price you pay, the ambiance is extremely casual and low key
Overpriced. Good sushi but not great.
