Terminal 1 was opened on 3 May 1970, replacing the old Overseas Passenger Terminal (which was located where Terminal 3 stands now) and has been greatly expanded since then. Today it is known as the International Terminal, located in the airport's north western sector.

Typical ignorance of Sydney Airport - Signs showing where each airline is located on the departure level driveway have been removed which does not help at all! More traffic chaos than before!
Look at this line - this is one reason a hy you should never fly Economy.
Followed the "Pick Up Drop Off" sign and ended up in Level 8 of roof top parking building after 10 min. Very poor signage and no other options 'out' and you are only allowed 15 min of free parking.

DON'T COME THROUGH HERE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. IT IS A DISORGANISED SHITHOLE
If you don't have a plastic bag for liquids they give them to you through the departure area. If you want to be ready when you get in there the news agency sells some for $2
Terminal is a disaster! Specially if some immig officers are missing very slow and looooong queue
Avoid buying food or beverages once you go through customs - they charge like wounded bulls and for poor quality. Either grab a bite before you go through customs or better before you leave home.

It's BYO pens for form filling at customs in departures.
Don't take a taxi b/t terminals, as a complete rip-off at min $20. We figured for 3 ppl, couldn't possibly be more than train ($16.50), but SURPRISE! No free xfers b/t terminals? Get with it SYD.
Skip past the annoying duty free section by going through this passageway right after security checks (next to the Chanel counter)
You can have that last cigarette at the Terrace just behind the qantas check ins.

Transfer from domestic to international terminal either by train ( 5 dollars) or by bus, which is 5.50..Definitely extra 50 cents worth Probably, they will start charging for lifts and elevators soon)
No decent coffee to be had past security, although I suppose the Aroma and Santos offerings are better than what you'll get on the plane.
