TPA is very tech-friendly. Workstations for charging & laptop use are plentiful. They offer free wireless access for all customers. Their wireless portal is mobile-ready & has helpful flight info.
If flying out of the American Airlines terminal, arrive early because as soon as you take train shuttle to concourse the security line can be an hour long or so looks at first from main hall deceiving
Visit the top floor of TPA parking garage. Morning/evening are the best due to the rising/setting sun. Free access to the garage for first hour. Stunning views of the bay, Tampa, and runways!
Cell phone waiting lot is great. It has restrooms and drinks. Also the lot has a flight board that tells you when flights land or if they are delayed. Great place to wait and turn off your engine!
If you come to check your bags and find that the lines are long, go to curbside. Usually not busy and quicker. Be sure to tip a couple of bucks for each bag. Worth it not to wait in line.
There is Delta sky priority security line as well as TSA pre check . Look for the Starbucks inside E as well as the Columbia Restaurant, The 1905 salad is just as good as the location in Ybor City!
Beautiful airport, easy in and out. Free wifi and plenty of shopping and food/drink past security. No 'charger chairs', but they have plenty of workstations you can set up at and charge up.
If you are traveling with kids under 10 years old visit the best indoor playground in town Gator Fred's fun and party center 5360 Ehrlich rd 33624
If you have a delay or a long layover, head to the adjacent Marriott and relax in the pool courtyard. They have bartenders serving the area and it was almost empty on a cloudy day!
If you are traveling around Christmas time or Spring Break, make sure you arrive at least 2 hours early to give you time to get through security, otherwise you will probably miss your flight.
Love this airport. Every time I'm here I've had such a smooth experience. The staff is friendly and there's a Starbucks if you need a kick from a red-eye flight. Free Wi-fi is provided too!
Easy to find, easy to rent a car, easy to get your ticket, easy to get to your gate, easy to get some snacks, easy to find a bathroom and lots of smiley faces. And EZ to find Starbucks.
No need to look for Wi-Fi here since it's free throughout the airport. Skip the souvenir shops and head to the International Shopping Plaza for your last-minute gifts (only 10 min from the airport).
If you are flying from Continental/United, jetBlue, or airtran... be sure to stop by Jose Cuervo Tequileria and enjoy some hot, delicious Mexican cuisine and some cold, sweet margaritas! :)
I you're parking in Long Term Parking, try to park on the northernmost end of the 2nd level. It will put you right at the walkway to the terminal. Avoid the creepy shuttle on the 5th level.
Awesome airport and wonderful ops/support staff bathrooms are always clean as the rest of the terminals. You take this for granted until you've been to "remote" international airports.
If you've rented a car from one of the in-terminal companies and need to fill gas before returning the car, set your GPS for a nearby gas station instead of the airport. There're no stations enroute.
Keeping liquids in checked baggage is always your best bet, but if you aren’t checking luggage, predetermine how much liquid security allows and plan ahead to avoid losing your favorite shampoo!
Not a fan of the "Immediate Unloading ONLY" for picking up for guests... You either have to keep circling or just sit in the SHORT TERM PARKING till your party is ready for pick-up.
Best choice for local food: The Columbia Café (Airside E), Green Iguana (Airside A), Shula's & Cigar City Brewing (Airside C) and First Flight, a wine bar by Mise en Place in the Main Terminal.
Here's a tip. Park in long term parking on the second floor and you can walk right into the boarding terminal. Saves a bunch of time if you have your boarding pass already in hand.
Initially I wasn't thrilled about flying into Tampa, but needless to say every comment is accurate and on point. Overall amazing airport!!! Why can't every airport be like this.
If you land in A, you must take a shuttle by security to cross airport. REDO a painful security process & then be left w/ way less options than the F side. If you can hang out in F before you go to A.
Watch out for the non working cart service, I paid $5 and never received a cart, I even paid an aditional $6 cash and nothing. Asked a Hertz agent and his answer was "well, bad luck" SERIOUSLY! !!!!!
Design-wise it's a great airport with nice selections. TSA is it's typical dysfunction causing outrageous lines. Pickup is a mess because the parking idiots can't manage traffic.
Free wifi and really easy to get around. Always better to hang out in the center and enjoy the empty couch seats before getting on the tram to the terminal.
I have flown out of TPA over 10 times in the last 2 months. I've never been in line more than 15 minutes. That's a plus in my book. The airport is super clean too. Hungry? There's a chili's to go.
Don't panic, Starbucks in main and outlying terminals. You'll need ticket & ID to board trams to gates then again to get to the gates coming off tram. Moves quickly, TSA pros.
Best airport experience I've ever had. Security was smoothly operated and baggage check was a breeze. Plus there's free wi-fi. Too good to be true. Haha. Safe travels.
HMS runs a Multi vendor concession that has healthy options such as hummus and carrots. Right next to Nathan's Di don't shy away from hunting down dinner there!
Dont get the buffalo bites at chilis sent back twice first they were cold the second they were my refried cold came out like rocks...I guess ill stick with what I know b-chz soup
Use the cell phone lot for picking up someone.. big sign with arrivals, bathrooms, concession, free wifi. The only thing that would be better is if they had a view of the runway..
TPA needs to get a clue. Your ID and bag should not be checked by someone who does not work for the TSA. It's not federally mandated. They also have no lines for first class or preffered members!
TSA are bag nazis here! To enter the line, you can only have two bags.... So if you want to get and early start on pulling out all the things that go thru security separately - forget it!
Check out the elephants on display by the shops before you get to the trams. They are awesome unique works of art.
Southwest Airlines totally sucks. I'd rather walk on hot burning shards of broken glass than fly on another Southwest Airlines flight. Bad customer service, rude flight attendants, and poor seating.
Staff checking boarding passes before the trams are extremely rude and cause tons of confusion with carrying on bags. Let the airlines handle bags and stop intimidating their staff & customers.
If u have time to kill before a flight, head over to the Marriott bar and pool. There are couches and big nice chairs to relax in and watch some tv
Avoid Starbucks. Worst Cappuccino EVER. dolts working here are more interested in visiting with each other, wiping already clean counters and avoiding customers it's not worth asking for another.
Starbucks employees wiping counters, then sneezing all over them. Don't cover their mouths. Then ignore you. Locals seem to know as there is no line on a busy day- RUN
One of the nicest airports I've been to in the US. Simple, and easy to get around, free WiFi & smoking areas before & after security (at least for airside C)!
The information person at the main terminal is so nice. He is proactively calling out to people to ask if they need help. He can spot the lost souls.
Chili's to go is great. Free WiFi. On the train, board the furthest car when departing. Gets you closer to the security check when you get out.
From horizontal transport strategies to free wifi to security check-ins in wide open spaces, Tampa has one of the most passenger friendly airports Ive traveled through.
Huge airport. Tons to eat and visit while you wait. A lot of parking but can be busy airport so arrive early.
In town for the RNC? Swing by the Mindworks store for patriotic hats and souvenir plush. Pick up patriotic tie dye tees at Ron Jon. And don't forget your flag from The Florida Shop as well!
Great wifi that actually works well! It's almost never busy here which means very few lines everywhere you go within the airport. Pretty good options for food.
