The Bankside Power Station was built as a ‘cathedral of power’ in 1963, but closed in 1981. It reopened as one of Europe’s finest modern art galleries in 2000. The Turbine Hall is 35m high.
The Tate boat, decorated by coloured spots inspired by Damien Hirst, travels every 40 minutes from Tate Modern - the world's most visited art gallery in its renovated power station - to Tate Britain.
It's great architecture, the amazing permanent collection, the installations in the impressive turbine hall and the major exhibitions
Go to see permanent exhibitions they are fantastic.
Late nights on Friday would be a nice way to wind down the week. And it's free entry.
What was the Bankside Power Station now takes advantage of the Turbine Hall for large installations. Be sure to check their website before visiting for new exhibitions.
A wonderfully British take on Modern Art - don't pay for the exhibits that cost - most of the floors and the excellent Turbine Hall are free to visit
go see the view from the bar at the top
The Infinity Room is a must see when visiting Yayoi Kusama's highly anticipated retrospective of her art work at Tate Modern (from 9th February – 5th June 2012)
TRAVEL FACT: Enjoy free admission to a broad range of art collections and genres mapped out in a contemporary building.
Make sure to check out the surrealism exhibit.
It's difficult to remember how this old converted power station used to be before the Tate moved in in 2000, so successful has it been! One of the best view of the river, and some fab modern art too.
Try and swindle your way into the members bar on level 6 for a drink and take in an awesome view of London.
You can enter Tate Modern for free except for major exhibitions or events. Tote Modern open from 10:00am until 6:00pm on week days.
The most visited modern art gallery in the world, Tate Modern features a vast collection of art and exhibitions of all shapes and sizes. Go to the bar at the top for a great view of London.
The incredible collection of contemporary art at the Tate Modern is always inspiring.
We like the Soviet propaganda posters in room 11. Sip a cocktail in the bar overlooking the view of the Thames and St Pauls Cathedral.
Lie down in the Turbine Hall and look up... then jump up and head for another icon, The Table Cafe, just behind The Tate on Southwark Street.
Incredible buildings for a museum. A bit crowded considering it's free, which makes a visit a bit stressful and it's hard to go in depth with the works
Get the Thames Clipper from Tate to Tate - amazing views of both galleries from the River!
Try and go on a Friday or Saturday when Tate doesn't close till 10pm. You won't feel rushed when trying to cover every exhibit in the massive building. Great views of the Thames as well!
You are one of the 4.7million art-lovers who visit the Tate galleries each year.
Free Wifi at level 7
Members bar. 6th floor. Wine. gin. Food. View of thames and St Pauls. Best view in London...
Definitely recommend becoming a member. Brilliant way to finish a visit to Borough market and a walk along the Thames
not that impressed with big black box, could have been darker or maybe one of those sound dead rooms.
Some pieces are world-renowned in the cool power plant-turn-to-gallery building. Tate Modern is newest one. Consider visiting other 3 older Tate museums also!
if you prefer it quiet, go first thing, 10am - plenty of free art to enjoy
Free wifi :D
The rotating exhibitions are great, but make sure you have time to explore the permanent collection. Look for Gunther Uecker's "White Field", one of our favorites.
Big interesting museum and building, where there used to be a power plant back in time, closed up in 1982 and then turned into this museum. Free entrance, toilets, wi-fi and wardrobe.
Great art gallery.. must see...
P.Picasso.
El café Mocha es el mejor que probé. Mejor que Starbucks y a solo 2,10£
Primera planta bien, muchas chavalas. La segunda, regular. Pero es que en la tercera, ni una eh?
Hasta el 15 de Julio la exibición Picasso and Modern British Art !!
