Apple Pan is the BEST burger in town by far. I always get the Hickoryburger with cheese, light on the lettuce, fries, a Dr. Pepper and banana cream pie. Can't go wrong with that order. Cash only.

Here is how it works: there is no waiting list, it's an honor system. Your job is to know who was there before you. It's not a free for all, so don't just shove in when seats open. And don't skip pie.

Hickory Burger is not the original Apple Pan burger, which just goes to prove that you can improve upon perfection. The apple pie is also a must, but their forks are flatter than the GOP's world view.

My fav burger in LA. There are other fancy good burgers out there, but this is the one I wanna settle down with. Hickoryburger w/cheddar light on lettuce, fries, banana cream pie w/vanilla ice cream

This was the first stop on my LA burger tour. Went alone at around 7 and was able to sit right away. Server was super sweet and the hickory burger with cheddar was delicious.

Worth the wait if you're just visiting. Free for all first come first seated system. Old school, no frills diner. The pie AND the burgers are delicious. #qualityforever

The Hickory Burger's so good because their recipe for the patty and "special sauce" are a secret. The ground meat is a mixture of prime and choice cuts of beef and the grilled bun gives a crusty edge.

A kind of retro diner that’s too classy to be defined as Fifties, this place has amazing chocolate cream pie and banana cream pie. Before that, enjoy a choice of five burgers or sandwiches. Read more

Awesome old school burger joint. The steak burger or the hickory burger in their signature relish is incredible. The less people in your party, the better, as seating is a musical chairs melee

Good burger. I didnt get a chance to taste the pies but I'll try it next time. I like the diner concept. Be prepared to stand against the wall and wait until seat(s) become available.

It matters where you stand. Once a seat opens up, be there first to sit. Go ahead & enjoy the burger, fries & pie as the others watch. That's how it works here so don't be afraid to offend.

Get the hickory burger. Don't forget the apple pie with the rich vanilla ice cream. One of the most delicious burgers and one of the most expensive. The taste is worth every penny!

A LA classic burger place. It is definitely an experience to eat here from the old timer who served us to the decor and seating. It is like a glimpse of a piece of LA history.

I don't fuck around with my burgers so instead of opting for their special "hickory" burger I get the steak burger with nothing but lettuce and cheese. The banana cream pie is also the shit.

Ignore the people that said it's ok to be rude and sit out of turn. Having said that... prepare to wait twice as long for a seat as you'll spend in it. Bring cash. Have the coffee with real cream!

Best burger on the West Side! Simple, fresh and cooked to order. Quick service with a professional touch. The pies are a great way to end the meal so you better leave room!

I know. I know. It's all about the burgers at this classic LA joint. But, if you don't do the egg salad sandwich with a slice of Tillamook cheddar! Delish!

Expect delicious food and fast, efficient service. Don't expect pleasantries or comfort. Understand that and you'll have one of the best burgers available and a great experience.

I just don't freaking get it! This joint gave me one of the worst burgers I've ever eaten, yellow lettuce, and a cold slice of apple pie heated in the microwave. Plus the waiter I had was an asshole

This place is on this list for historical reasons only. I would not waste any money going to this place. Burger is so-so and the prices are not appropriate for the quality of food.

I didn't think the hickory burger was anything special, but something different. The pecan pie was pretty good. They didn't have ranch for fries. Only accept cash.

One of those old establishment places akin to Denny's, but not as good, and are hipster-branded so that you go anyway and hate yourself afterwards.

A grade-A LA burgers. You get the sense that all burgers were like this pre-1950. Jonny Rocket's tries to channel the Apple Pan but manages to get it all wrong, because, well, The Apple Pan is real.

The person who said just grab a seat that opens was wrong- that's not how this place works. People are very courteous and it's first in, first seated. Also, best apple pie EVER!

You must try their hickory burger with hickory sauce. Finish it off with a banana cream pie and you're in heaven.
